to think migraine with aura is really horrible?

Just had my second ever migraine with aura. Goodness me it is foul!

Realised cycling home wasn't a good idea after I nearly pulled out from a junction in front of a car I just couldn't see. Stupid I know - I walked from then but crossing roads was horrible even so.

Much better now thank goodness.

I've had these since the age of 11 bloody horrible, first time I had one my parents thought I was mad telling them about the coloured sky. Didn't know until recently there was a proper name for it.

The aura ones are better for me, if I start getting that weird/disjointed feeling and the colours and lights I can sometimes head off the headache with a big enough application of drugs.

Am impressed you could cycle with a migraine at all, pretty much all I can do is lie in bed with a bucket for the sick and pray for death.

The pill increased the number that I got. Was 2 or 3 a month, when I stopped it they dropped in intensity and only get one now at ovulation time.

I have had migraines since the age of 8, but without the aura.

Mine will only pass once I have been sick (but not if I make myself sick).

I was told by a doctor that at the first signs of a migraine to take an antacid tablet such as zantac, as this will prevent the stomach acid rising & making it worse. It also allows the migraine meds to work quicker.

Morloth - I was desperate (and stupid) - dh was in London and wouldn't get back in time to get the kids so I had to and I just wanted to get home and lie down. Fortunately I clicked what was happening pretty much as soon as it started. The first time this happened I waited for about an hour hoping it would go away which meant I was trying to get home when the sledgehammer started.

Horrible.

I go blind in my left eye if I get one - comes on suddenly (apparantly this means I could never get a pilot's licence!)

Plus the wriggle snakes, flashing lights etc .....

I could cope with the pain, though its foul. its the Aura that causes the bother

I just get the aura, I start to realise I can't see a whole object, just chunks missing out of my field of vision, when it eventually clears it is like looking through ripples in water. My optition called them optical migraines, as I don't follow on with any sort of a headache. I get them more frequently than I used to. very odd feeling, and very dodgy if you are driving st the time, I've had to pull over a few times as I couldn't see the edge of the road.

If you just get the aura, it's called an ophthalmic migraine. I used to get migraine with aura but since pregnancy, I don't develop the headache proper (hallelujah!!!). Still totally irritating and unpleasant, however.

Honestly ladies - I would get your eyesight checked out if you haven't already done so. As mentioned before - I used to get classic migraines when younger, but they started up again, with reduced field of vision, and everything looking pixilated, when my eyesight got strained using computer/reading.
