Went into boots last week to swap a pack of nappies to a bigger size. Ended up not taking them straight to the till, thought i'd check they had the size 1st. I got distracted by some perfume, mothers day presents and my phone. Went to the till and paid, walked out of the store. Was standing outside sending a text and got stopped by securtity. When i'd been talking to the cashier and taking stuff out of the buggy basket i'd missed a gift set i'd put in. To cut a long story shorrt i was in the office for 2 hours, they called the police and everything. i was morfified and called hubby in tears.

Really i just wanted to warn you, I'm sure you all know how easy it is to stuff bits in your buggy basket as your doing your shopping. I've also been banned from Boots stores for 12 months, which is crazy seeing though i'm a member of the mother and baby club and buy a lot of food, nappies etc. They also accused me of taking the nappies i'd swapped and just wouldn't listen to me, even when they'd seen the cctv.

Anyway, thought i'd share, really wouldn't want it to happen to anyone, but they don't seem to trust harressed stressed out mums in a rush. mistakes don't happen....

A most pissed off caroline xx

LOL Custardo - awaiting name change to Faginlite!

My Ds had the biggest meltdown in Boots at the weekend (there's a lot going on he's not usually a brat!) and the lovely shop assistant went out of her way to help and even got the service lift for us so that he didn't have to face the scary stairs. So, Boots are alright by me.

fernie3 · 16/03/2010 08:58

well I can see how boots would assume you were shoplifting especially as it was already in the basket, most people do this after paying.
Having said that I know how easily it is done I was in a food shop and had a giant basket full I wanted to buy a 2 litre bottle of pepsi and couldnt fit it in the basket so tucked it on the top of the pram in the hood to get it to the checkout, it was only when I got most of the way home and pulled the hood over I realised it was still there unpaid for .

Probably a bit late as the OP may not return but if I can ask, Caroline once you were stopped ouside, did you offer to pay for the goods, and do so? And when you mention a fine, what did you mean? Have you been contacted by Retail Loss Prevention (RLP)?

I'll tell a funny story.I bri g up Guide Dog puppies. We were in Asda one day by the sausage bit. I was looking at the food, when i looked done, puppy was having a fight with a bag of sausages,Now, any labrador owner, knows ,forget trying to get food off them. The staff, fortunatley saw the funny side,I offered to pay, they refused,I wrote a letter of thanks to the manager.
Now I am older, its loo rolls hanging on the handle of the trolley i tend to walk off with.

solo · 16/03/2010 14:11

Fallon8, a couple were in front of me at Tesco a few months ago and had a huge trolley of shopping and a pack of loo rolls hanging on the trolley hook. Every time he put something else on the belt, he knocked the pack, but once he'd loaded everything on, he left the rolls in place and it was very obvious what his intentions were...so I kindly reminded him not to forget his toilet rolls! His face said it all! boy was he pissed!

fallon8 · 16/03/2010 14:19

for solo....fancy trying to nick loo rolls,I wonder if its just the thrill of the challenge of getting away with it? I do go back and pay,i just feel such a twerp.

butadream · 16/03/2010 14:22

Surely everyone knows that is the hook for cat litter not loo rolls anyway?

solo · 16/03/2010 14:27

I can really understand genuinely forgetting they are there fallon, but he knew they were there.
I've genuinely forgotten loo rolls on the hook before, but thankfully, I noticed them as I was about to pay and had them put on my bill. I know my luck and I would be thrown in jail for it, where I'd be driven mad with no Mumsnetting!!! .

Hi Caroline

Poor you x I have used my buggy basket loads of times, reckon the only reason I haven?t forgot to pay was because I constantly talk to myself and have an-annoying-to-others habit of doing a running commentary of what I am buying as I go round the shops! I shall pay more attention now though as I can see how I may look to others when I do pop things in the basket.

Must say that Boots could have used their discretion here ? if they kept you in an office for two hours you would think they would be able to tell by your reactions that it was an honest mistake. I think a 12 month ban is a bit OTT.

Think some other posters here are being a bit harsh. I know it?s AIBU but sure you can be honest with a bit of kindness too? 
