to be not sure about taking a free holiday?

Found out last week that I have won a holiday through work for my performance last year which is fantastic. Big but is that it is for two people and cannot add children. It is a European city break 3 nights away and am just not sure about leaving dd (3) for that long. It cannot be transferred so can't give it away and would be wasted if me and dp didn't go. My mum is happy to have dd and they are v.close so think dd would be okay. Would be lovely to spend some time with dp but still. So aibu not to go or am I being a bit precious??

do it, do it, do it.

Ve'y jealous.

loolop · 14/03/2010 20:26

Tis 3 nights lewisfan, think best plan would be to go tues a.m back Friday pm (depending on flights) as she could then still go to nursery weds, thurs and friday as normal so her routine isn't too changed and that way also it shouldn't tire my mum out too much as won't be all day and all night iyswim. Another advantage would be not havng the end of holiday dread as we will want to come home and see her!!

Are you mad? Go!

She will have a fab time being spoiled by Granny, you will call and she will be far to busy to talk to you.

I can't wait until I am back with GPs nearby!

QOD · 14/03/2010 21:52

not a banker no LOL!

Lotkinsgonecurly · 14/03/2010 21:57

go.go.go.go.go...go.

We had a break when ds was 2 before dd arrived was only 2 nights but was so fantastic. Went to Paris and we felt so free but knew that ds was safe and happy with granparents.

Have a lovely time

Also think if you were going to make something up it would've been more dramatic than this!

onadietcokebreak · 14/03/2010 22:02

Go! Enjoy and have a fab time! Your daughter will be spoilt rotten whilst you are away and will love being at Grandma.

However if you still feel the urge to give it away I will go instead

loolop · 14/03/2010 22:08

Eeeek sounds like dp was right and we should def be going! Sooooo our choices are Paris,Rome, krakow, Budapest or Barcelona? Been to Paris but none of the others-any recommendations?

onadietcokebreak · 14/03/2010 22:10

Rome!

AnyFucker · 14/03/2010 22:22

Rome

choosyfloosy · 14/03/2010 22:27

Great choice! What do you like doing???

I would choose Budapest because I've never been and it's the city of spas and... and...

But otherwise Barcelona if you are going now-ish because the weather will be nicest IMO (willing to be corrected by others - have only been to Rome in August, not sure what March would be like)

RedbinDippers · 14/03/2010 22:28

Go FFS.

JaynieB · 14/03/2010 22:31

I think I'd also be a bit to leave my 3 yr old for 3 days (maybe I am a wet blanket) but as its free.....!!! You'll probably have a lovely time and if you were too traumatised, you could always come home early

lisad123wantsherquoteinDM · 15/03/2010 08:10

have been to Barcelona before it is stunning and beutiful Highly recommended

HappyMummyOfOne · 15/03/2010 09:53

I wouldn't have left my DS as 3 either so I can see why you're torn. If your little one is used to staying over with her grandparents though its different - DS has never stayed away from home so I couldnt leave him for 3 nights.

roses12 · 15/03/2010 10:03

definitely go!

Barcelona if a festival is on, if not def Rome. Loved both.

Enjoy mega jealous

tethersend · 15/03/2010 10:13

Have been to all those cities, and would definitely plump for Rome. It's magical. Budapest second, but nowhere near as good as Rome.

I want a holiday.

glastocat · 15/03/2010 10:28

I've been to all of them too and agree with tethersend, Rome is incredible. I love Budapest too and the spas are fabulous, and I am definitely going back there for the Szchenyi baths alone, but if you haven't been to Rome you really have to go there. You lucky sod!

DastardlyandSmugly · 15/03/2010 10:56

Another one for Rome or Barcelona - both lovely cities with lots to do and see.

Indaba · 15/03/2010 10:59

go go go go go go go........would happily live in my garden shed for 3 days to get a break.....

loolop · 15/03/2010 11:08

Oooh didn't know Budapest was known for spa's.......sounds like heaven! But think dp really wants Rome. Will probably be in may.

Spoke to my mum again about it as was a bit concerned she was just saying she would have her thinking that I wouldn't actually go! But she seems to be quitelooking forward to it! Dd has slept over there twice-once in all the snow in January as neither me or dp could get home.

Ooh am excited - am getting the pack on Wednesday so can start booking!

Budapest is really nice. We stayed at a hotel on St Margarets island with it's own large spa Public transport is excellent and cheap, lots to see and (outside of the hotel)the beer is very cheap. Look at trip advisor for reviews of hotels etc.

swanandduck · 15/03/2010 13:03

Go, girl, go.

As for SSM, I suggest she shoud jog on.

swanandduck · 15/03/2010 13:04

By the way, Budapest is beautiful. It's known as the Paris of the East.

slug · 15/03/2010 13:18

Budapest definitely. There are thermal hot pools fantastic wine, beautiful archetecture and good food. Check out the Hungarian Wine Cellar near the castle, but do not get hopelessly drunk as DH and I did. Twice

There's a sculpture park near the end of one of the suburban bus routes where they put the sculptures from the communist days. It's advertised as "tons of Socialism". They put on "Great Communist Anthems Volume 2" when you areeive and is good for a giggle if you're into that sort of thing.
