to loathe football

mother's day or not, who's idea was it to invariable put the football on in the middle of the day at weekends? meaning that you can never go out for day day without a fight?

beautiful day, stuck in the house because of the football.

why is it always so important and always takes precedence? every match looks the same to me.

there have been two matches on sunday for the last few weeks, annoys me too.

Buzzybb · 14/03/2010 12:18

and don't forget the sky plus for the rugby and the motor racing.

sweetcat · 14/03/2010 12:19

All I can say is thank god my DH hates football. I work with mostly men and it's all they talk about all week, yawn

cuspish · 14/03/2010 12:21

don't like to deny someone their passion, and dp has given up his season ticket since the baby came along. but ffs! it really does seem like a cruel joke that it's only on on weekends . and not first thing or last thing, but right smack in the middle of the day.

Can't stand it either, never have.

In fact I really don't like sport on the telly at all (aside from occasional 'biggies' like the Olympics or england playing in a World Cup final or something)

DH and his father will watch football, cricket, rugby, Formula 1, darts and worst of all golf at every given opportunity.

And DH thought my family was odd because we never watch any sport!

MamaLazarou · 14/03/2010 13:30

I have never dated a man who likes sport. It's pointless and dull.

PersonalClown · 14/03/2010 13:31

YABU!! It's religon, a lifestyle etc!!

Hehehe in all seriousness, Is it his team?? We have a rule in our house that is only our teams we watch or a match that has a mutual interest.

Get Sky + and record it.

mollybob · 14/03/2010 13:32

me and dh watch football together but if I had wanted to go out for Mother's Day we would have done - but I'm knackered and 30 weeks pg so would rather sleep through watch the football

GypsyMoth · 14/03/2010 13:32

I think Most sport is in middle of the day though. So yabu to just single out footie

IloveJudgeJudy · 14/03/2010 13:36

My problem is not the watching of football, but having a son who referees a match in the morning and plays in the afternoon. DH always goes with him to both so we can never go out on a Sunday in the season as a family, but I don't mind. Rather out for sport or anything than in for X-Box or whatever.

GypsyMoth · 14/03/2010 13:44

Golf, cricket, tennis....... They can go on ALL day, and are in the summer, so I think that's worse than 90 mins
during the winter, as footie generally stops in warmer weather

cuspish · 14/03/2010 13:50

I just wish I hadn't fallen in love and got pregnant by someone who loves football. All my previous boyfriends hated it. It's his team and every single march is imperatively important and necessary for him to see live. Recording it wouldn't do. But atleast he's compromised. When we first got together he had to actually go to every match and watched every march he could on telly, not just his team. So I know he's compromised, so I'm trying not to moan at him despite the fact it's my first mother's day today.

i am actually listening to the match whilst on MN.

Dh hates football and generally any sport so would not be a case of me having to persuade him to go out.

i do like my footy but it is not the most important thing in the world to me. if i'm in a position to watch or listen, i will, if not i'll wait for match of the day.

(should've just scored then btw, damned berbatov...

cuspish · 14/03/2010 14:13

Finally finished. Phew. His team lost so he's fed up. Sun's gone in so I'm fed up. Bloody football. If it didn't exist we'd already be on a beach somewhere thinking about lunch.
