to object to threats of violence in thread titles?

I have no problem with swear words/bumsex and the like in titles as this is an adult website and we're all adults but there does seems to be a lot of wanting to seriously maim someone.

I also object to people saying those who object are pofaced!

awaits violent onslaught

Doesn't bother me.

It's a thread title not real life

it's the internet so people are entitled to rant

people rarely say they've beaten the crap out of someone (recall a few times but they post afterwards not before)

so, and meh.

junglist1 · 14/03/2010 12:05

A thread about a thread bad form blah blah not mumsnetty blah. As you were

paisleyleaf · 14/03/2010 12:52

I guess I must object too as I've not clicked on one yet.
They never seem to sound like something I'm going to fancy reading.

tethersend · 14/03/2010 13:00

YANBU, and I'll deck anyone that says otherwise.

YADNBU.

If somebody posted "I'd like to beat my wife to a pulp" there'd be hell on.

Apparently joking about beating your husband is ok though.

And people wonder why male victims of domestic violence don't often come forward...

Shodan · 14/03/2010 13:24

I've only ever seen one or two and have never found it offensive or anything.

I've always assumed they're just letting off steam.

GypsyMoth · 14/03/2010 13:40

That's true Amber, very. Men also come on this site, but if they posted similiar then it wouldn't be acceptable would it?

and 'po faced' is a very old fashioned expression!

belgo · 14/03/2010 13:46

YANBU. Of course someone will say it's only the internet, not real life, but these written expressions of violent anger are only serving to make violence seem even more normal and acceptable. I's also argue that the internet is real life, it is being used by real people after all.

bibbitybobbityhat · 14/03/2010 13:50

Yanbu. I posted as much yesterday. Its the ones about slapping old ladies in the supermarket or the annoying neighbour that really get to me. However, I usually just mentally write off the ops of those threads and the people who mindlessly join in with them.

If the name were not already taken I would become pofacedandproud just for the purposes of this very thread!

waitingforglasto · 14/03/2010 14:15

I just hide them - know what you mean tho...

2shoes · 14/03/2010 14:47

hide them
I have done that with all the JB ones.

bronze · 14/03/2010 14:55

For me it depends on the tone
There was a very aggressive one recently I didnt like at all but other ones I can just ignore. Afterall I wouldnt complain about the milk advert @I'll kill him when I get my hands on him'

Floopy21 · 14/03/2010 21:38

I've been thinking exactly the same - bitch slapping, punching in the face, etc, etc. It's all horrid. Laurie- It's NOT ok to be voilent & abusive just because you're on the internet.
