Feel tertible saying this out loud...hence asking on mumsnet!

I have been offered a childcare student from the local college. Just met her and it turns out she is a smoker and keeps snakes. I have a 2 week old newborn and a toddler so I have concerns....

She says she wont smoke on her 2 days with me.....and won't bring the snakes

I'm thinking increased risk of cot death and Salmonella. AIBU and hormonal or should I be greatful for the extra help?

our favourite nanny smoked, but we made it clear she couldn't do this at work and she never did - i have a finely tuned nose for these things. i don't see this as a problem - and i'm very anti smoking - as long as you are clear that if she smokes or leaves your child to smoke its instant dismissal. i can't imagine this would go down well on her cv/college report - which i guess is why they do this work.

"will still be breathing out CO for an hour after that last cigarette."

ROFL

Love SouthMum's post!

As for those just not liking the smell is it ok to say "no indians because they smell of incence"?

Would you also be dubious if she kept tropical fish? Risk of salmonella there too.

BariatricObama · 13/03/2010 19:49

why keep snakes? freakerama.

FanjolinaJolie · 13/03/2010 20:01

onagar not sure what you are finding so funny

darkandstormy · 13/03/2010 20:42

chill out and don't be so silly.Be grateful for the help.

Stupid comment onager.

There is a definate risk of salmonella with reptiles, however if she washes her hands, which im sure she does - no problem.

The smoking would be a serious stumbling block for me though, although i did have to chuckle at the CO2 comment, its not the C02 or CO that is the problem, its all the other toxins that are still on the breathe afterwards. Its vile.

I would just be adamant that she didn't smoke at any time before coming to the house, if she smells of smoke, don't have her - it might be a good lesson for her actually.
