DD is on her way
to being 4 months old, it could be 13 weeks it could be 16, I dont know dont care and dont see the relevance.
Was at a friends the other day who said 'oh so n so got her first tooth at 29 weeks.
What!
You kept count that long!
Was at the supermarket n check out boy said 'oh cute how old'
Replied ' um maybe 14 or 15 wks' he said oh she's not yours then your just looking after her, I explained that no I was just a very (aparently) lax parent.
She's a happy chubby baby doing more n more each day so maybe I'm naive but who cares about centile charts, weights, baby book propaganda etc I'm too busy living n loving it

YANBU or a lax parent....I'm the same and so glad it is now passable to say months instead of weeks but even then I pause and look into the sky to think.

Like you, enjoying him too much to think about it! I only know by looking in his red book lol

Lemonmeringue · 12/03/2010 15:33

Ah, 29 weeks, must be very advanced.

Of course it doesn't matter, but you might want to make sure you've got her birthday written down somewhere for future reference...

BritFish · 12/03/2010 15:33

YES. you are so so so NBU.
my absolutely worst bugbear is people who say '24months'
thats two years. your child is a two year old. 24 months is two years.
and i would say a year and a half instead of 18 months as well.
i really dont get it. i dont say my 19 year old is 228 months old.
even when my kids were first born i said 3 months.

ImSoNotTelling · 12/03/2010 15:34

YAdefNBU I am exactly the same!

nickytwotimes · 12/03/2010 15:36

See, I crossed the weeks off like a prisoner marking the days...

MrsVidic · 12/03/2010 15:39

Don't worry- I am the same- indeed at baby cafe the mums all know I have no clue about weeks etc and often tell me how many weeks my dd is

For example- Your DD is coming up to her 8 mth brithday soon

  • is she?
  • yes because my DS is going to be 8 months in 2 weeks and is 6 days older than your DD
MarshaMallow · 12/03/2010 15:46

YANBU....my 3 are nearly at the teens stage....and when we have official forms to fill in I still have to ask them when their B'Days are and the years!

They were all c/sections though...I blame the drugs at the time which made the days/dates all became a blur!

sillyoldfatcatpuss · 12/03/2010 15:59

YANBU I was like this with baby no3 especially. I still have to stop and think when asked for no2 and no3's dates of birth. Get lots of these

thedollshouse · 12/03/2010 16:03

YANBU. I am the opposite however, I swear I have a calendar in my head. I have to stop myself correcting other people when they give the wrong age.

passionberry · 12/03/2010 16:03

YANBU - I struggle to remember how many weeks pregnant I am (unless I've just seen the midwife and she's told me!)

Lemonmeringue · 12/03/2010 16:04

You can overdo the vagueness though. There was an embarrassing pause when my husband was asked how old our younger daughter was recently. I had to step in. 9 years, for Pete's sake!

Rockbird · 12/03/2010 16:13

I'm obsessed with the months now that the weeks are too many to count. DD is 26 months. If I said she was 2 then people might think she was rising 3 as opposed to just turned 2. My baby is growing up fast enough as it is without adding vagueness to the mix. And yes, I knew how many minutes pg I was as well. It gave me something to do!

StealthPolarBear · 12/03/2010 16:16

i love knowing the weeks!

AreAnyNamesAvailable · 12/03/2010 16:27

I counted in weeks until DS was 3 months, however until I was pregnant it used to really annoy me when I asked someone how pregnant they were and they told me in weeks, JUST TELL ME HOW MANY MONTHS! When I got pregnant, I realised how the weeks actually mean something (still lost count by 20-ish weeks though!)

I'm loving motherhood but am still able to count in weeks DS is 24 weeks old tomorrow ;) however, I think I'll start getting vague towards the 7 month mark when I have to go back to work

MrsDmamee · 12/03/2010 16:39

YANBU.
for the 1st time ever in my 3rd pg i actually know how many weeks pregnant i am, and thats only because all the newsletters in my inbox tell me.

even at my Ante-natal check up yesterday i was asked in what year did i have my last baby and i paused and thought "oh god ive no idea!!" so eventually said 2006 and hoped i was right

as for weeks old with a newborn i think i could only manage single digit weeks then i got lost after that and would just say months until dc's turned 1.

upahill · 12/03/2010 17:05

I never knew how many weeks mine were after ummmm a few weeks. Like it matters!!! I had no idea about centile charts weights etc I just went with instinct. I knew when everything was ok and when everything was ok and when I/they needed help. I to enjoyed the moment! Still do nearly 14 years later.

bronze · 12/03/2010 17:10

I ask my friend whos baby is 5 days younger than my 5th. I stopped counting after a few months with my first. I'm lucky if I remember their names and just do a headcount

Galena · 12/03/2010 17:17

I only got as far as 27 weeks in my pregnancy, so it was kinda important! Also, I have written in my diary how many weeks old DD is each week and how many corrected weeks she is.

In my defence, whenever we have hospital appointments as followups to her prematurity they expect me to know weeks and corrected weeks (although now she's 10.5 months old, months seems to be acceptable, thank goodness).

pointylog · 12/03/2010 17:23

Why didn't you just say 'nearly 4 months' when the boy asked her age?

Shaz10 · 12/03/2010 17:25

I lost track at about 4 months. I do it in calendar months now.

memoo · 12/03/2010 17:54

By the time you're on your 3rd like me you'll sturggle to remember their names let alone how many weeks old they are!!!

Boys2mam · 12/03/2010 20:20

DS2 is now 18 mths (and 12 days)...

...this is now the official end of the monthly count - its also the end of the toddler-count-down.

Once they hit 18 mths, to me, its now 2, 3 year old etc.

and my biological clock counting down again....
