To expect my baby to have somewhere to sleep?

My baby is due to arrive tomorrow so not unreasonably DH ordered a cot for baby to sleep in(and he actually got this one right for a change!). And in good time too (January).
Although the cot duly arrived the mattress was notable by it's absence! They have now failed to deliver on three seperate occasions and their next attempt is due on Monday. Needless to say I'm not holding my breadth!
The shop in question? None other than John Lewis! Perhaps their new slogan should be 'Never knowlingly under control'!

I am by this. Am John Lewis fan.

Kick up a stink, get lots of vouchers. Baby will be fine in drawer

Have you got a moses basket?

MrsVidic · 06/03/2010 18:49

I second the moses basket. Do you know anyone who lives near you with a small baby- they may have a spare moses basket- you are welcome to borrow mine- I live in the north west?

FairyCakeBump · 06/03/2010 18:56

If you don't know anyone who can lend you a Moses basket, check out the ASDA direct site. I got mine from there for £25, miles cheaper than anywhere else and it's good quality.

I'd be kicking up a huge fuss to John Lewis and if you do end up having to buy a Moses basket, tell them you want THEM to cover the cost of buying it. After all, had they not messed up you wouldn't have needed to buy one.

Poor wee mite! A folded up blanket in a drawer will do the trick - and make for good photos to show them in later life!

BertieBotts · 06/03/2010 19:00

Or just snuggle down in bed with them for the first few days - if you want to breastfeed this will be very helpful in getting it established.

Good idea. Then send picture of baby in a drawer to John Lewis' head office.

WynkenBlynkenandNod · 06/03/2010 19:03

Agree that I would kick up a huge fuss with John Lewis. DD spent a week sleeping in a drawer when she was 3 weeks old as we had to stay with my brother to escape from vomiting people all around us.

Thanks for all your suggestions - you really put a smile back on my face!

As some of you suggested, I kicked up a fuss with John Lewis (I e-mailed their Managing Director!) and, to be fair, their response has been excellent. He e-mailed me back on Sunday evening and I got a phone call this morning. And my baby's bed was delivered this afternoon. Top marks!

Just got the birth to get through now!

My littlest was a week early so she spent first day in cardboard box till we could borrow moses basket. We did however tart it up a bit by writing 'Mamas and Papas' on it with permanent marker

MrsKarpet · 08/03/2010 20:19

PS good luck with birth....!

tooloudhere · 08/03/2010 20:25

There was a mix up over the order for the cot when my eldest was due. It did not arrive till 10 days after the due date, she arrived of her own accord the next day!
We were sure she knew we weren't ready, perhaps my panic over where she would sleep stopped labour from starting.

I am sure the birth will be fine too!
