which leaves me with two options

a/ dh watches it, me not happy
b/ dh doesn't watch it, dh not happy (even though I'm sure he would smile)

(AND the Monaco GP is on my b'day)

erm...

he records it and watches it in the evening while you have night out with friends?

2shoes · 04/03/2010 22:45

let him watch it

ClaireDeLoon · 04/03/2010 22:46

I thought this was going to be a thread about pee'd off you were you were going to miss it and I was going to come sympathise at how rotten misisng it would be and say YANBU.

However it's in Bahrain, so should be a morning race? You can lie in bed while he watches it/looks after kids?

BertieBotts · 04/03/2010 22:47

Last year there was an "important" football match on. XP went to the pub to watch it, didn't even take DS with him to give me a break either

ClaireDeLoon · 04/03/2010 22:47

ACtually no it starts at 3pm their time, 12 noon ours so coverage will start at 11am I guess.

emkana · 04/03/2010 22:48

It's on at 12 midday in this country.

Those of us that love them though will have a perfect excuse to sit and do nothing for a couple of hours.

I will have to record it though because I will be stuck on the M6 coming home from a do up north on the Saturday night.

But I will be looking forward to catching up with it in the afternoon.

PacificDogwood · 04/03/2010 22:53

YANBU

Sympathies from another motorsport 'widow', grrrrr!

But then again, I do also hate Hallmark's Mother's Day with a passion...

Still hate it

Along with Valentine's Day - bah humbug!!

PacificDogwood · 04/03/2010 23:01

Anyway, this is about motorsport and what it does to our DHs - mine is in a huff as SkySport now only shows highlights of NASCAR rather than the glorious 7 hours of it - huzza!!

PeasPlease · 04/03/2010 23:02

Oh that's my Mother's day treat sorted then. DH can take DD out while I enjoy the race.

I am very

TottWriter · 04/03/2010 23:03

Ask him to record it, and he can watch it later. That way, both of you are happy.

Or do what I did, and develop an interest in your DP's hobbies. I'm a born and bred petrolhead myself (my Dad loves motor racing and I grew up watching the F1 and MotoGP with him), but my DP is more into cricket and rugby. In the last three years I've learned an awful lot about the two sports, although I draw the line at sitting and watching the footie with him. Fortunately, he's hapy just listening to the odd match in the kitchen as he's not a die hard fan.

Moto GP races are actually pretty exciting. Far better than F1 IMO - the overtaking and racing interaction is more intense.

One of these days I'll badger my dad to take me to a race. I'm sure by then DS will be old enough to go too, and we can all three of us be petrolheads.

2rebecca · 04/03/2010 23:04

He's your husband not your kid. What's the problem? Your kids give you a card on mothers day if you're lucky and erm... that's it.
What exactly were you expecting your husband to do and why?

mayorquimby · 04/03/2010 23:04

Why would he miss the F1, you're not his mother.

emkana · 04/03/2010 23:09

Traditionally we spend the morning going for a walk as a family and then get home and dh cooks , with his Mum coming round for Sunday lunch.

And if he watches it then what do I do? Children need supervision and get bored watching F1, so should I spend Mother's Day looking after the children while dh chills in front of the TV?

Excellent - I have cast-iron excuse to be able to watch the GP and have MrNC on baby duty!

gaelicsheep · 04/03/2010 23:22

I really like GP (at least I did before the ad breaks). I've never quite worked out why.

sweetnitanitro · 04/03/2010 23:41

I'm quite pleased it's on Mother's Day this year, DH can look after DD while I watch the race in peace, then afterwards I can phone my mum to wish her happy Mother's Day and argue with her about whether or not Schumacher cheated.

happyjules · 04/03/2010 23:50

Excellent. Yes seriously, tis me in this house that is the petrol head. That means only more week til the speedway season starts too. Dd1, 5.6 is nearly as bad as me. yippee

borderslass · 05/03/2010 06:45

sorry but thanks for the info been looking forward to the start of the season real petrol heads in this house it's even better being there.

gtamom · 05/03/2010 07:44

You can still do what you planned. He can tape the game for the next day, if you want the tv for something else, or want to go out during that time. How old are your children?

I see no reason why the can't deal with them and watch the game. What if he were a single father? Or, what if you were a single mother?

You could have your mothers day the day before instead. It is really only a date on the calender.

As long as I can sleep in and not have to cook or clean anything, my mothers day is good.

borderslass · 05/03/2010 07:54

gtamom its not a game its a formula one race and I know I'd rather watch it without knowing the result as thats what usually happens when you tape it and its not got the same level of excitement watching something when you know the result.

GoldenSnitch · 05/03/2010 08:01

My DH is a computer geek as well as an F1 fan and has spent the last few months writing a new (he's done this 3 years running now) F1 dream team website for him and his workmates (and me ) and he still didn't realise the clash until I pointed it it to him last night.

Unfortunately, when his sister called last week he agreed to go out for a meal at 12 on that Sunday for Mother's Day - his Mum will be there, along with his Dad, Me, both his sisters plus husbands and all the children - so he can't really get out of it now.

We'll record it and will probably watch it together with the children (I always quite enjoyed it, but have gotten more into it since living with him) but poor DH - the look on his face was classic

cyb · 05/03/2010 08:04

I loathe Grand Prix and any man who watches it is a nerd
