to go for a job interview when I know I am pregnant?

I have a dilemma! Just got invited to a second interview for a job I'm really keen on - but two days ago found out I'm pregnant (very early stage, only just missed period).

What do I do? Carry on with the interview and tell them I'm expecting if I get offered the job? Pull out now? Or say nothing at all, then if I do get offered it, turn up in 3 months time (my notice period) with a bump...?

baby no 1 took 18 months to conceive so I kind of thought I wouldn't be in this position

i think that you're in danger of getting ahead of yourself.

it's only an interview so you may not be offered the job and you only tested two days ago and have just missed a period so presumably you are less than ONE WEEK pregnant!

I really hope everything goes well with your pregnancy but i would certainly not be telling anybody at ONE WEEK.

I don't know how long it is until your interview, hopefully it's a few weeks away so you can be more secure in your pregnancy.

Then, if you are offered the job, you can make a decision. I think personally if you are sure that you want the job, that you will DEFINATELY want to go back after the birth if at all possible and that you intend to stay there and give them years of loyal service, then it is not unethical to take the job.

hmm lots of views!

I am on a 3 month notice period with my current job, so if I do have 2nd interview, get an offer etc, I'd probably already be at least 4 months pregnant when I started, complete with bump I expect. Just don't think I could stay quiet about that.

As to whether I'd take the job if I told them I was withdrawing and they really insisted.... that's harder.... having no maternity pay / rights would certainly be a worry.

And yes this is a fairly rare opportunity and something I'm really quite keen on - but my current job is bearable and I suppose I'd just have to take the risk that something would come along later.

finally yes I am getting well ahead of myself, if I don't get the job the dilemma rather disappears, but need to think ahead as I can't faff about if I do get an offer.

Oops I name changed in case in some bizarre way the new / current employer could recognise me by my usual nickname... blown my cover now! :-)

Just to report what happened... got down to the last two then the other person was offered the job, but the company told me they would really like to offer me something in future when they have more money to expand the team. Had they offered the job I would have declined as in the end it wasn't enough of a dream job to make it worthwhile. If they offer me something next summer - post-baby - I might well take it up.

So really glad I went to the interview, and really glad I didn't get it!

Hi all,

A similar topic, I am interviewing at the moment and want to find out about companies' maternity policy as in the next few years I would like to start a family. Is this suidide do you think? How can I ask the question and find this out without ruling myself out of the position? Although companies shouldn't discriminate about this, they might do it sub-conciously.....

Advice?
