to apply for a job and worry about the lack of childcare later

Ideal job been advertised. Mornings only, term time only. Ideal for me, a single mum with young kids.

I am very lucky I have a job but after 5 years I need something new (Im not in the job I was hired for, was made redundant and sidestepped) - and with the boys due to start school term time only would be fantastic.

However, I know I would struggle to get childcare for at least 1 of the days. Am I unreasonable to apply anyway, with the (slim) hope that if I do get an interview and indeed the job I worry about finding something then?

Knowing the market at the moment I will be one of 100 at least applying for the job, so this could all be worry over nothing.

Apply for it, who knows by the time you get the job (helpful positive thinking . you may of found a solution to childcare.

Good luck

Sorry to be thick, but what's the problem? Is it getting childcare between now and when your DC start school? When are they starting, next September? What do you for cihldcare at the moment?

I would say YANBU, go for it and try and sort something out in the event you do get the job.

OtterInaSkoda · 01/03/2010 18:10

YANBU. How peed off would you be if, a week after the closing date, you discovered an amazing and affordable afterschool club (or similar).

shushpenfold · 01/03/2010 18:10

Go for it - I did this and quickly found childcare (with another Mum from school)

smokinaces · 01/03/2010 18:17

I only work 2 full days at the moment - the nursery they are at (and indeed all in the area it seems) have no space for mornings for the rest of the week until July. DS1 is due to start Sep or Jan depending on allocations. Thurs/Fri I may be able to rely on family for the short term, but wednesdays have always been a hard one.

I will apply though. If its meant to be its meant to be. I'd kick myself if I didnt apply, jobs like this are like gold dust.

no YANBU - how about a childminder for one day or contact your local childrens service for help.

go for it! hope you get it, do let us know if you do! Good luck.

Go for it - these things have a habit of resolving themselves.

Yes, I'd apply now and worry later. There's nothing like having a start date for a job to make you get childcare sorted out

ChippingIn · 01/03/2010 19:44

You should apply - it will sort itself out one way or another!!

Spaces become available for all kinds of reasons, new places start up, you hear of a childminder you didn't know about, someone at school needs a little extra cash or some swap time...

What's the very worst that can happen? You tell them you can't do Wednesdays for a little while, they say it's not negotiable and you tell them you can't take the job... it's not exactly life threatening is it
