before I start I'm not a prude, have lived a fairly liberated life and am very each to their own about a lot of issues. but...

dh lets dd (3.5) watch the music channel as she loves a lot of pop music and likes to have a dance. Harmless enough, a lot of the videos are fine but I do turn it over due to the semi-pornographic of some.

I don't want dd growing up with the idea that you have to look a certain way to be validated as a woman, I don't want her copying lap danceresque styledance moves, I think it's objectionable.
i hate the way women areportrayed in a lot of rap/r+b videos, ie as little more than sex objects.

dh things i'm being over the top and there's nothing to worry about.

No I wouldn't let a 3.5 year old watch them....or my nearly 9 year old come to that...

Why don't you buy the ELC DVD called 'party dancing'? Has lots of music videos, such as YMCA, Timewarp, Tragedy and all the ones you do little dances to. My DDs (6 & 3) love it. Only cost £5 too.

Totally agree about the inappropriate nature of some of popular music though. Lily Allen's song (the one about her lack of orgasms) came on the radio the other day, followed by my 6 year old asking me why she would want her boyfriend to make her scream? (Because surely if they're friends, she wouldn't be screaming at him would she mummy....?) They pick up more than you think!

For crying out loud YAsoNBU! Have you seen the latest lot of Beyonce videos. I love music but I refuse to allow my kids to watch a woman gyrate her crotch on tv, or to see some soft porn r'n'b/hip hop video.
