Can someone please explain why a decent school run dress is so important?

I do love a good dress but most of the time in this country it's too cold to wear one.
When reading the syle and beauty section it always amuses me when poeple say ''look at this school run dress!''.
Do you put it on just to do the school run? Is it to impress the other mums?
I guess my dd isn't at school yet so I've yet to endure this fashion parade.

You can clean and garden in a dress!
It does not make it physically impossible.

Although, on Big Cleaning Day (Monday, obviously), I get up, stay in pajamas and scrub.

Then I shower and change into a dress.

SixtyFootDoll · 24/02/2010 21:53

I'm not saying people shouldnt weaar dresses!
I love dresses and love clothes, my poimt is that people shouldnt feel that they have to dress a certain way just to collect their children from school.

emmyvic · 24/02/2010 22:01

Haven't us mums got better things to worry about than if we are wearing the right clothes for the school run? As long as you are actually wearing clothes and haven't just nipped out in your undies I'm sure that will be sufficient .

It more important that the kids are clean, fed and have PE kits!

SuSylvester · 24/02/2010 22:12

IT IS NOT ABOUT WEARING THE RIGHT CLOTHES FOR THE SCHOOL RUN

IT WAS A JOKE THREAD YEARS AGO

YOU ARE READING TOO MUCH INTO TI

ITS A TERM TO DESCRIBE A THROW ON DRESS OVER A BIKINI

SixtyFootDoll · 24/02/2010 22:23

I DIDNT READ IT YEARS AGO!!
I DINT GET THE JOKE!

SuSylvester · 24/02/2010 22:23

but if you had read THIS thread you would have had it explained several times!

SixtyFootDoll · 24/02/2010 22:25

I have PMT, nothing is making sense to me today!

Oquioqui · 24/02/2010 22:27

I know, but I would probably ruin the dress if I wore it for cleaning and gardening!

SixtyFootDoll · 24/02/2010 22:31

Now are these 'dresses' like 'I'm a laydeeeee' dresses and does one have to wear gloves and hats to match?!

RoseWater · 24/02/2010 22:44

I tought from the original thread that its a case of what you are wearing - bikini / underwear/ short shorts etc is something you wouldn't want to be seen in public in (too revealing) hence throw dress on and away you go.

SuSylvester · 25/02/2010 08:08

I said that several times further down and no bloody bugger listened to me.

SuSylvester · 25/02/2010 10:58

you are paper monitor

Robsia · 25/02/2010 11:28

I don't change especially for the school run - but in the summer I have been known to wear a nice floaty summer dress.

TheSmallClanger · 25/02/2010 11:28

I've never felt the need, but I do have a smart-ish coat that I put on over my work clothes sometimes. Does that count as a School Run Coat?

MarshaBrady · 25/02/2010 11:35

No one gets changed for the school run. It's a dress that is easier than jeans.

meatntattypie · 25/02/2010 11:35

Is it?
So important my arse!
Dont really give a flying fuck what other people think, i wear what the hell i want and dont think a second thought about it.

This pisses me off. Dont feel pressured, you wear what ever you wear normally.

There are far more important things to worry about out there than what a complete stranger that you may or may not say "morning" to in the quick 10 mins you are dropping off and picking up your child thinks about the brand of boots you are wearing.

fishie · 25/02/2010 11:44

read the thread meaty. no need to be cross...

JohnnyTwoHats · 25/02/2010 12:57

Ah, good.

RoseWater · 25/02/2010 12:57

Meatntattypie - I think the point is that whilst you:

..."Dont really give a flying fuck what other people think, i wear what the hell i want and dont think a second thought about it."

I for one would not want to humiliate my children because I turn up to school pick up in my bikini - which is what I will be wearing during the day - however in one swift movement can throw dress over head and dash out door rather than roll round on floor to squeeze sweaty flesh into jeans and top

YoginiBikini · 25/02/2010 13:00

Has this not fizzled out yet??

What's so difficult to understand?

I wish I could wear dresses, I see other women in lovely floaty dresses in the summer and warmer ones in winter worn with long boots. They look fab! If I was to wear one I'd end up looking like my granny.

LittleMrsHappy · 25/02/2010 13:12

ohhhh I love weaning my dresses, makes me feel instantly dressed and also more womanly in myself.

As for clothes to wear specifically on a school run, well erm No, I dont need to show off, Im me, and if you judge me on my clothes, well you simply have not got a scooby doo about me!
