Just got back from taking ds17,dd6 and ds3 on short break, we had family room with 2 doubles. DD wanted to share with her big brother and ds3 wanted to share with me.I agreed to this, had no qualms about it other than i thought that my 17 yr old would get fed up of dds constant wriggling.
In conversation at school today, mentioned the room arrangements and one of the mothers said that this is illegal and that i shld keep quiet as some people may find it a bit odd. Is it me or has the world gone mad?

YANBU i work with loads of child protection stuff in my work if someone told me this i would just think it was really sweet! people are sooooo paranoid about child abuse that they can jeapordise loving, healthy relationships. My friend told her husband to lock the bathroom door when he is in the bath in case his dd (8) saw his willy and he got put in prison!

I used to go and get into bed with my big brother when there were really loud storms. Big brothers are excellent for this sort of thing.

YANBU the world has gone mad and it's a little sad that she thinks like that.

I do wonder though if she would think the same if it was the other way round. A young boy climbing into bed with his older teenage sister?

My little brother used to regularly climb into bed with me when he had a bad dream or got scared.

I am that your 17yr old was OK with it.

Think mine would rather sleep on the floor than share!

YANBU.

You make a really good point momofnearly2, in different circumstances I am sure this mother would have said nothing if it was your young son sharing a bed with his teenage sister.

The world has gone mad.

It isn't illegal for the council to put two children of opposite sex in one bedroom - they state they will not rehouse like this - but they will leave siblings in a property like this.....

My ds is 17 and dd 13 and they still share a bed sometimes if we have visitors (he has a double so she snuggles up in with him) and sometimes can be found in there on a Sunday morning watching someting on Youtube or whatever. We have just booked a cottage for a week away at Easter and they are both excited (he pretends he's not but he IS) as they will have to share a room for the week!
They even talk about sharing a flat one day..mainly so he can tidy up after her...and she can do the cooking
I think it's lovely and YANBU.

You are definitely nbu and the world has gone mad. My baby girl loves bathing with her 10 year old brothers and they seem to have just as much fun. I think it's shite that I'd be a bit scared to get some of the lovely photos I've taken of them in the bath printed out, precisely because of this kind of ridiculous attitude.

I'm going to tell the boys about your son training his little sister to make him cups of tea, pagwash. I think they will approve!
