to not use a car seat for 1 yr old DS?

Well yes of course I would be! That is why I am hoping someone will be able to help me fix mine.
Is a Maxi Cosi Tobi. I foolishly picked it up holding the straps at the back and the bottom strap (the tightener) has come through. Theoretically I should be able to thread it back through but I am struggling.
There is nothing in the instructions and all I can find on google are a few people asking the same question.
Just to be clear - I would never drive with DS not in a carseat and the seat is not damaged or weakened (if I can rethread it)

ah now your problem I can help with!
That is a design fault with the maxi cosi seat - they tend to fix it no questions asked - they did for my friend anyway.
They introduced something called a soft cap which is a bit of material you put around the bottom buckle to stop food getting into the bottom (cos that what causes it). You can get it for free from the website (or you could when I bought mine) - won't fix it now but will prevent it happening again.
If you google maxi cosi straps stuck there is loads of information on it (but none on my problem!)

Still no reply to my email so will be ringing them in next hour or so will let you know what they say

You may need to send it back if you cant get it in. There are two handles/grooves at the side of the seat... halfway up on the 'wings' to pick it up with. I had my seat for ages before I discovered them

Well looks like £50 is the flat fee - that is what Maxi Cosi says it will cost to fix.
I would also have to arrange a courier which is likely to be another £20 or so.
Boots not interested.
Even tried Mothercare but they couldn't help either.
Think I will just buy another Evolva for the extra £20 it will cost.

Just a warning about the evolva the straps aren't very long for a tall but light child, mine were too tall to physically get into the harness long before they 18kgs.

crapdoc · 23/02/2010 22:49

My mothercare sent it for free. Worth trying another couple of stores???

wuglet · 24/02/2010 18:00

crapdoc...were you asked for proof of purchase?
cargirl we have two evolvas already -your kids must be very tall or I have seats with longer straps!

no, i don't think so. they were really helpful - unlike the first mothercare we tried who denied they could do anything to help.

having said that - £50 is a lot of money, and the seat really irritates me as they have altered the strap loosening mechaanism: they put one of the soft cap bits on the bit between the legs, and now I have to pull down the head rest to loosen the straps. not easy when you have your baby in the seats! I am hoping to buy a new seat by stealth, but DH refuses point blank. you might be better just buying a new one?

not sure but what about threading an opened up wire coat hanger through the loop and pulling it back through...can't actually envisage the seat but it's a theory that may work!
