To think that dh should change the channel or watch his program later

If you're watching something on TV that's unsuitable for the children do you turn it over or ask the kids to go away? . Dh was watching some rubbish on TV and told dd (7) to make herself scarce so that he could watch . Shouldn't he wait until the children are in bed if he wants to watch something with swearing and sex?

My friend's DH plays 18 cert Xbox games in front of his 8 yo but justifies it cos the son is not actually playing

mad4mainecoons · 21/02/2010 19:04

OMG tell me about it. my DH watches all flippin sorts with our 3yo DS sat on the chair with him!!

ill come in fromm another room and DH is saying things like, oh they are wrestling!! or our DS is sitting slackjawed watching things like 24 or supernatural!!

if i dare to suggest that perhaps such things are not really suitable to watch as a family my DH insists im being overprotective and silly

just cant make him see sense!

abbierhodes · 21/02/2010 20:15

I don't know why you put up with it! It wouldn't happen in my house.

thisisyesterday · 21/02/2010 20:22

crankytwanky · 21/02/2010 21:02

But what was on that was so bad while a 7yo was still up?
Genuine question, not having a go btw. I would never let my 7yoDD watch Eastenders for example, even though it starts an hour and a half before the watershed.

Coldhands · 21/02/2010 22:12

He was being a selfish idiot. My DH commented yesterday how The Mummy Returns was inappropriate to have on in the middle of the afternoon (on tv), not suitable for young children, therefore he turned it straight over so DS didn't see it. This is what your DH should do.

BigWeeHag · 21/02/2010 22:15

Really? Mine have all watched that.

Coldhands · 21/02/2010 22:18

My DS is 2 BigWeeHag I expect yours are older.

I do think it is way too scary for a 2 year old.

GoddessInTheKitchen · 21/02/2010 22:21

my dd has watched all sorts since forever, the only thing i really turn off is sexual stuff

but op yanbu he should have switched over

BigWeeHag · 21/02/2010 22:22

Well, mine are funny kids. I took DD to see Pirates when she was 3, she sat through the whole thing and absolutlely loved it. I couldn't see that the violence was any different to the stuff they see on BrainRotDrivelTime Cartoon Network, I felt the same about the Mummy.

I wouldn't let them watch proper horror, like High School Musical.

Coldhands · 21/02/2010 22:25

HSM!! Thankfully DS wouldn't show any interest in that drivel. It doesn't involve cars for a start.

I am hoping it goes away before he is old enough to ask for it. Please!
