I mean, wtf?

Spidermama · 20/02/2010 23:03

I know what you mean. I feel a little like my adult space is being invaded now my dd is on. I'll have to filter my status updates.

CheeryCherry · 20/02/2010 23:04

I am ignoring friends dc requests unless they are 13 or older, thems the rules!

shockers · 20/02/2010 23:05

I won't add anyone under 16.

MiladyDeWinter · 20/02/2010 23:09

YANBU. All my friends who work / have worked in schools have a blanket policy to not accept friend requests from under eighteens. I think it's sensible.

I do accept a few requests from ex pupils, mainly people I know to be fairly literate. It's depressing else

I have a setting for kids - they dont get my feed and cant see stuff - means they can add me and i can keep an eye and they can have me as a neighbour for games

2old4thislark · 20/02/2010 23:18

9 is too young to be on Facebook. However, if it's your privacy you can amend your privacy settings so they can see virtually nothing. My son has done this to me and actually I'm quite pleased. I only worry otherwise.

Or you cn accept and then delete after a little while. They won't notice then. they may even think you cancelled your FB account rather than just deleted them!

plonker · 20/02/2010 23:21

I don't add under 18's.

I know that the age is 13+ for children on facebook, but part of my hobby is working with a lot of children and many of them have requested me. Why, I've no idea!!! Why would you want to share your ins and outs with old fogies?!

bluejeans · 20/02/2010 23:22

my DD is 10 and I would NOT want her reading mine or my friends' status updates! And not for a few years yet if ever!

notanumber · 20/02/2010 23:26

Kate Miller-Heidke has a hilarious song called Are You Fucking Kidding Me? about people you really don't want anything to do with trying to be your friend on Facebook.

(It's about old flames rather than kids, but is so funny I thought I'd share it with you anyway).

I don't add my ds's friends when I get sent a request. They just want to get as many friends as possible. If they really thought about it I'm sure they wouldn't want me seeing what they write and I don't want them laughing at what I write!

friendly · 25/02/2010 10:34

I do have my ds as a friend. In fact the only way I let him have an account (he's only 12) was by making my name his password. I also told him I would check his account now and again to make sure he was behaving and his friends actually. He's banned at the moment for writing something unpleasant and I'm glad I found out about it myself. I think fb for kids can be a lot of fun but there is a definite downside and added pressure which we didn't have to deal with. Part of me would love to be a teenager today with texting and fb etc another part of me is so glad I'm not!

Astrid28 · 25/02/2010 10:54

I'm friends with my teenage nieces, but I block their status updates so I don't have to read their shite. Although they don't talk much in reality, teens never shut up on FB and I can't understand a word of it!

But no, I wouldn't bother with other kids. If they ask just say 'Oh I didn't see it. Have you requested (name of someone more suitable/you want to annoy). They're on there, you should request them'
