Thats what DD2 wants but will it work??..Pirates are not exactly known for their good deportment and manners

Sounds like a riot!

oldernowiser · 20/02/2010 18:19

Why are pirates called pirates?

Because they arrrggghhh!

Sounds fantastic and so lovely that she'd rather be a pirate than a princess!

If they don't behave make them walk the plank

Mumcentreplus · 20/02/2010 18:24

Thats what my DH says!!..cutlasses and cup cakes

Ooh, that's great. Maybe calling the tea 'grog' and the cakes 'ship's biscuits'?

I want a pirate tea party now

HalfMumHalfBiscuit · 20/02/2010 19:07

Pirates is a great theme. Good for grown up parties too.

You could hide gifts in treasure chest bran tub style.
Choc coins as treasure?

Parrots

Dead fishes

Mermaids could also feature if you are wanting them to chill a bit.

We did one for dd2 when she was about 8.

We had fancy dress and played 'Islands' which is like musical chairs but with bits of newspaper shaped like islands, instead of chairs. The pirate without an island each round is out.

We also played pin the eyepatch on the pirate and variations of musical statues etc with vaguely piratical themes.

I made a bloody brilliant (if I say so myself) pirate island cake, complete with sea (and shark), land, palm trees and pirates and treasure (Playmobil) and a skeleton. Gold coins from Thorntons and varius 'jewels' piled all around it.

Oh we did search for the gold coins too and something to do with a map iirc.

oldernowiser · 20/02/2010 19:16

Could you have a treasure map with a hoard of gold coins or some such tat for them to find?

Maybe swords made out of balloons for fighting duels

A game of shipwrecks (obstacle course off ground, grass/carpet is actually shark infested ocean)

And definitely a plank to walk (blindfold)

I once made a treasure chest cake for my son which was chocolate cake sides, covered in chocolte with sweets stuck to the sides then filled with chocolate coins and bright coloured quality street etc, set on a large cake board iced like a beach. (he's 28 now, we didn't ban sugar in those days so sorry if inappropriately sugary)

Sorry, bit of a cross post with janeite

Mumcentreplus · 20/02/2010 19:21

Loving all these ideas ladies ..keep em coming!!

We went to one where each child was given a basic cut out pirate hat and they had loads of jewels, glitter and feathers etc to make their own hat. I always try to do something crafty to get them all sat down and quiet for ten mins!

Another MNetter posted this - haven't used it yet but it looks fab.
Going to do it for my ds.

Hi there

I was planning a pirate party for ds2's 6th birthday this year. Then he changed his mind and decided on a Space party instead.

Ds1 is having a Secret Agent party and while surfing around looking for inspiration I found a site where you can buy the whole kit and kaboodle for a spy or pirate party for about £8.00 to £10.00 depending on the theme.

You pay via paypal and then receive a link to download all the relevant pdfs.

I ordered the spy/secret agent one for ds1's party and it looks pretty good, although to be fair we haven't actually used it yet.

Might be worth a look though?

DD1 had a pirate party for her 7th. It was such fun- i made Pirate Punch (pineapple juice lemonade and green food colouring) and served it in a big skull shaped jug from Halloween.
The biggest success was a treasure hunt! A cardboard box decorated very simply like a chest (duct tape round it for metal bands, sharpie marker studs/keyhole etc). I filled it with fine sand and seeded it with enough little treasures for every child to find two each. Basically I went through every junk drawer and shoebox in the house for big old pennies, foreign coins, old keys, plastic jewels, beads, rings etc. They said it was brilliant

Are there special types of MNers who go around resurrecting Zombie Threads?

waithorse · 23/10/2014 18:39

I suspect someone is trying to get there website noticed. Hmm

Hatespiders · 23/10/2014 18:49

Terrific fun!

Watch 'Swashbuckle' on CBeebies. They play all sorts of piratey games and it might give you some ideas.

I think it's a great idea, and so refreshing (as others have said) not to have blooming 'Princesses' in pink frocks over and over again!
