To cancel friends coming round for dinner because our toddler has a fluey cold?

He turns in to a velcro limpet when he's poorly and it's nigh impossible to get anything done. Sometimes he sleeps brilliantly and sometimes we're up and down every 15 minutes giving him cuddles.

We cancelled our friends last ngiht and they were fine about it but I feel guilty and as if we're being precious.

WWYD?

I must add that the place is a tip and would have required a substantial amount of time on it to even fit our friends through the door and that's without the cooking.

No you are right to cancel imo. Ill children take over your brain and the entire house Do it next weekend?

LadyGaggia · 20/02/2010 14:50

No, if he is ill and you are having to spend all your time looking after him, then no one would expect you to entertain them

EmmaBemma · 20/02/2010 14:51

YANBU. You wouldn't be able to relax and enjoy your visitors' company - I speak from experience here. My daughter had an evil cold last year when we had friends round - she had a raging temperature, couldn't sleep, had coughing fits every five minutes and I was in and out of her room all night. It was very fraught, and whilst it wouldn't have been a picnic if we'd had the house to ourselves, the presence of visitors to entertain made it a lot worse.

That's what has happened to us twice before Emma which is why we're erring on the side of caution. The first time was exactly as you describe and the 2nd time DD was sick 12 times between 9pm and 11:30pm.

Thank you everyone, you're making me feel much better about it! I know I wouldn't be able to relax.

Gosh no, you are just being considerate and making sure your guests don't catch the bug!

There seems to be a record number of bugs going round this winter - we haven't been well since Christmas!

YANBU.

We have been no where this holiday as all 3 dc and me have this fluey/cold bug.

The only person we've seen is my mum who also has it.
