Not a AIBU at all just need a quick answer.
Anyone live in HA and have a payment card meter for gas and Electric????

You know the ones where you top up the card/key therefore paying before you use it?

Sis is in a HA flat and has been told she can not have pre payment meters put in, that can't be right?

I think it's quite common, but I've never been it that situation - sorry I can't be more help. Just thought I'd post since you wanted quick answers.

Why would she want them??

Does it say this in tenancy?

momofnearly2 · 19/02/2010 21:02

I'm not sure tbh, I know my mom had to get permission to take them out so maybe that's right.

Although I would tell your sister to stay well clear of the Gas meters, We have them and they cost a bloody fortune. £80 a month on gas we pay now when we were paying £40 a month on direct debit in a house that was twice the size before.

The electric meter is much cheaper though. £10 every 1 1/2 weeks or so.

I live in a council house and I have those metres for both.

I heard of them being reluctant to remove the metres but they are always really keen to put them in in my experience.

KimiGaveUpStarbucks4Lent · 19/02/2010 21:06

She and her BF are behind with the gas and Elec She is not working at the moment as she has had cancer, struggling on £96 every two weeks.

They have been told as the flat is HA they can not get meters, seems very odd as the people in the flats are all low income and it would make scene surley to avoid getting in to this sort of mess

they drink money... she'd be better off budgetting and having a direct debit across the year to level out her payments

GypsyMoth · 19/02/2010 21:06

They cost £50 to get removed...... At tenants cost, and that is for each meter

I was very lucky southern electric removed mine for free

memoo · 19/02/2010 21:07

They don't charge to remove them!

Tortington · 19/02/2010 21:10

its nowt to do with HA, its the gas and leccy company.

afaik = you have to be in debt to get a meter installed

I'm not HA, but I have them.

I was in debt (a lot), but they came round and said if I wouldn't let them in to fit them they'd call the police.
I have no idea if it was true but I let them.
Yes, I pay more than I would if I didn't have them, but I like knowing it's paid for so I don't have a bill.
Oh, and this week I paid the last debt payment on the metre (meter?, I don't know which spelling it is). It took me three years, but I did it!
