...to think David Cameron should have credited Mumsnet with 'his' new policy against sexualising children through marketing?

nothing new under the sun eh...

scottishmummy · 18/02/2010 21:11

i think he can form free thought without mn

SpeedyGonzalez · 18/02/2010 21:13

Sorry, sm, are we talking about the same David Cameron here?

LOL ok he does prevaricate, maybe the missus or paid lackeys told him what to say

i think pre-election politicians are all gushing about every damn thing

SpeedyGonzalez · 18/02/2010 21:23

Certainly gushing, that's for sure. They all get on my tits. Voting is one of the few things I do consciously that's against my principles - i.e. my principles of not doing something that I think is utterly pointless and therefore don't believe in.

What a sad state of affairs - when I think of the way people have become so much more cynical about politics in this day and age, I wonder why? Is it something wrong with us, or is it them?

think politicians chats on MN are cheesy.manufactured and trying too hard

SpeedyGonzalez · 18/02/2010 21:30

Yes, quite. Can you imagine what a horrible personality change you'd have to make to become a successful Parliamentary politico?

NormaSnorks · 18/02/2010 21:37

People were already talking about this long before it was on Mumsnet.....

(MN really isn't the centre of the universe you know?)

KittySpencersEmerald · 18/02/2010 21:38

we haev had this very same thread before

Anguis · 18/02/2010 21:44

The govt is bringing out a new report on the sexualisation of children next week. I guess that explains Cameron's stuff today. It might also explain MN's campaign on the same issue, or at least the timing of it (it begins next week too).

scottishmummy · 18/02/2010 21:48

such issues were around preMN.maybe mirroring concerns rather than mn generating issues

SpeedyGonzalez · 18/02/2010 22:00

Norma, you clearly haven't been to the centre of the universe if you believe that.

Interesting re govt report, Anguis, I didn't know about that. And not before time, I should say.

YABU, this was an old issue long before MN. Think you're overestimating its power tbh

NormaSnorks · 18/02/2010 22:27

Speedy - ah no... I have been to the centre of the universe and back you see....

Silver1 · 18/02/2010 23:18

I guess SG is upset Gordon Brown didn't launch this one first, don't worry he'll do it next week.

stealthsquiggle · 18/02/2010 23:24

David Willets (sp?) creeping to MN on Breakfast this morning made my skin crawl.

scottishmummy · 18/02/2010 23:40

all politicians brown nosing internet forum is icky

skihorse · 19/02/2010 06:38

YABU. Holy Shit - are you trying to tell me that only DC and/or mn have noticed this phenomena of the sexualisation of children? Why haz I been blind to this?

groundhogs · 19/02/2010 12:28

Honestly? Who cares who says they'll tackle it as long as they actually DO!

TBH, it's not only the politicians that can solve this, we all have a duty to reject the goddawful clothes, the playboy toys etc that are being peddled to our DDs.

It's absolutely disgusting what is going on with marketing to the girls of our society. Totally unacceptable.

I think that all advertising should be utterly banned from all Childrens TV channels or those mainstream channels showing programmes for children.

Only sponsorship of programmes should be allowed, and with very strict guidelines/regulations.
