i've just announced pregnancy at work and soon afterwards when moving some heavy (ish) objects around the office one of my colleagues shouted 'careful, miscarriage alert' when i shrugged off concerns about the weight of what i was moving... is that a joke in rather poor taste or am i just being over sensitive??!!

very poor taste.
but let them move the heavy stuff next time

misspudding · 17/02/2010 17:35

Poor taste me thinks. Have they done a health and safety assessment for you though? It'as a legal requirement.

driedapricots · 17/02/2010 17:35

yep, mid twenties career girl with no kids/thoughts of having them!

Well, gauche then. Sort of well-meaning in a really clumsy way

queenoftheslatterns · 17/02/2010 17:41

very, VERY poor taste.

MrsGazebo · 17/02/2010 17:45

Congratulations on your pregnacy
YNBU.
That was very poor taste and a very insensitive thing to say to a pregnant woman.
For all they know you may have had previous issues/worries.
I'd have a word and ask them to be a little more discreet if they are that concerened.

BrahmsThirdRacket · 17/02/2010 17:45

It's in very poor taste. What line of work are you in? In lots of offices I've worked in, offensive/blokey banter is de rigeur and there's no point reacting to it - you just have to take the piss back.

laydeestardust · 17/02/2010 20:35

agree well meant but incredibly badly put, she's probably been quietly mortified ever since she said it.

mnistooaddictive · 17/02/2010 21:32

She probably wanted to acknowledge your pregnancy and said completely the wrong thing by mistake. yes it was tasteless but not malicious!
