to be considering going out this afternoon?

DD is a bit over 2 and half. When I went through to her room this morning there were 2 liitle patches of what looked like vomit on the sheet of her bed, just below the pillow. I asked her if she was OK, she pointed to her tummy. I asked her if anywhere hurt and she pointed to her tummy.

I know there is a vomiting bug at her nursery, and I know all about the 48 hour rule, so assuming she had been sick I decided to keep her off nursery this morning and rang my work to say I was going to have to take annual leave. I only work half day today so she would normally only be at nursery half day as well.

The village near us has a play bus and toy library there this afternoon. We have some toys to return. They should have gone back last month, but we couldn't get there because of the snow, so I feel we should make every effort to get there today. (It only comes once a month.) Although she is a bit out of sorts, she hasn't been sick any more, and has had no diarrhoea. So I am thinking that we get the bus there, return the toys, if she seems up to it then we have a little play - unless it is very busy in which case we come straight back as a courtesy to others, don't want to pass anything on - and then come back home.

But I am very aware that some people (understandably) frown upon passing on bugs, and especially "breaking" the 48 hour rule. So AIBU to consider taking her out?

A tiny bit. Has she got a temperature? if yes, I would say don't go. This will sound ridiculous, but can you wash the toys and return them without her touching anything?

fernie3 · 17/02/2010 12:00

I probably wouldnt but I dont think you would be totally unreasonable to go. It depends on if you think she feels unwell still and how urgent it is to take the toys back.

gingernutlover · 17/02/2010 12:04

can you not phone the toy library and explain?

I think that to take an ill child on a bus and then to play with toys in a toy library is a bit unreasonable.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 17/02/2010 12:07

The toys should be clean enough kreecher - she hasn't played with them for about a week now, so they will be no more "germy" than normal. It's just I can't return them without taking her there. I don't really know what will happen if I don't return them - I did ask the first time we borrowed toys and they said not to worry if we missed one month, just take them in the next time. But we have already missed one visit (because of the snow) so have already had them 2 months and I just feel a bit about keeping them longer. But I guess it wouldn't be the end of the world.

And yes she did have a bit of a temperature, though not too high and it quickly respnded to good old calpol.

I am prepared to admit that maybe IABU, was in two minds about it mysely, which is why I posted.

It is guaranteed that if you take her on the bus she will be sick or poo everywhere.

If you keep her at home she will make a miraculous recovery and drive you mad bouncing everyhwere.

I'd stay at home.

DebiNewberry · 17/02/2010 12:13

Yes, you are. I would phone the toy library and explain, I'm sure that they'll be grateful to you for not coming.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 17/02/2010 12:15

badkitten - that is pretty much what I've been thinking, especially as she changed from "whingey, clingy, I just want to lie on the sofa and watch CBeebies" mode into "Mummy play!" mode this morning. Mind you she did get worn out fairly quickly after a bit of play dough and doing some colouring and asked to go to bed half way through a jigsaw!

I think I will try to get hold of someone on the phone (they never gave me any details, will have to search online) and just let them know that I have not left the country with their Brio and tambourines!

Thanks ladies

Stay at home, as OYBBK said she is guaranteed to throw up everywhere if you take her out, meaning you have to clean her up and go home covered in sick

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 17/02/2010 12:59

We are staying at home. I found a number for the play bus and left a message explaining that I'll have to hold onto the toys for another month. If they have a problem with that I will show them this thread!

How is she doing?

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 17/02/2010 17:03

Well no sickness but generally sub-optimal And temp has gone up properly now. Gave calpol an hour ago and it hasn't come down. So ibuprofen in another hour or so and an early night I think.
