To put DD in nursery when I have the day off?

I really don't think IABU but fully prepared to be put in my place

It's my birthday on Friday, and I have a strict policy of not working on my birthday, so am taking the day off! DD (18months) is normally at nursery on Fridays so I was planning on taking her in as normal and spending the day doing not very much, maybe watch This Morning, do some washing that sort of thing!

DH was when I mentioned it, and can't see why I want to do this. He's not being arsey about it but does think it's odd.

We both work 4 days a week so DD gets one day one on one with each of us, plus the weekend with both of us, and 3 days in nursery which she seems to enjoy, so I think she's got a good nursery / life balance

I will admit when I was pregnant, or when she was younger / not getting much out of nursery I would never have imagined doing this. But now I'm really looking forward to a day pottering around on my own. I'm not BU am I?!

OOoh lexilicious - happy birthday for friday. You me and Prince Andrew, huh

You also made me realise that I haven't been to the hairdressers for about a year, why the hell didn't I think of doing that?! Going to book an appointment now.

I still reserve the rights to play with the new washing machine, but there will be no other cleaning / chores done, don't worry people.

YANBU, I did this on Monday because my boyfriend was on leave too AND we'd had time to ourselves on Sunday because DS was at his Dad's. I do feel slightly guilty for even having the opportunity to do it because I know a lot of SAHMs, especially those with more than one who very rarely if ever get the opportunity to have one of those days we all took for granted in the days before kids. Enjoy!

flyingdolphin · 17/02/2010 13:24

YANBU and happy birthday!

Lexilicious · 19/02/2010 07:42

happy birthday to us, privet !

i'm in bed with a coffee and a suckling baby who is tickling me with his free hand.

you are so NBU. Good quality childcare is fantastic for children. My ds loves going as he has children to play with, and i still send him when on holiday as i spend that day one-2-one with my older son

Bonsoir · 19/02/2010 08:12

Why don't you take your DD out for the day to a restaurant and on a girly shopping trip? Would be more fun than watching This Morning and doing laundry on your birthday...

AmazingBouncingFerret · 19/02/2010 08:22

YABU, purely because I havent been able to have a day off since DD (8 wks) was born and im jealous! I often used to send DS to his childminder when I wasnt due in work. Sanity saving days I call them! In a month or so I might start sending DD to the childminder aswell so they can get to know each other and I can reaquaint myself with my hairdresser and driving instructor!

Enjoy your day and hope you have a good birthday!

Oh wow first double post. Heh.

Yanbu.

I am on mat leave at mo and DS1 is still going to nursery 3 days a week. Agree with all the others though, please leave the housework and do something that you cannot with a toddler in tow!

PrivetDancer · 19/02/2010 10:09

Thanks ladies, and happy birthday lex!

Dd is safely deposited at nursery, the washing machine is on and I am now at the hairdressers

Because she doesn't want to Bonsoir?

YANBU. You are a mother, not a martyr, and you do not have to feel guilty for having time to yourself.
Enjoy your day.

takingadeepbreath · 19/02/2010 14:13

Lol at taking an 18m on a girly shopping trip and out for a meal!

Happy Birthday OP - enjoy your day, I fantasise about time all alone...

LittleWhiteWolf · 19/02/2010 14:18

YANBU.
My DD (7 months) is in nursery every wednesday morning (started 3 weeks ago) before I go back to work to intergrate her. I miss her but I also really enjoy the 5 hours to get on top of housework and typically I do some bulk cooking etc. Naturally I also enjoy having a cuppa without half of it going cold because DDs just done a huge poo or whatever!

muttonchop · 19/02/2010 14:20

Am also LOL at idea of 'girly shopping trip' with 18-month-old - bonkers!

Hope you're having a great day OP - YANBU at all, and I envy you! (Actually I've just remembered I had a FORTNIGHT between jobs in October - and DD2 went to nursery on all her usual days, while I went clothes shopping, had numerous lunches with long-neglected friends, etc etc. The bliss...)

bandgeek · 19/02/2010 14:21

Enjoy your day! I put my DC in nursery 3 days a week, however every second week I only work 2 weekdays, so have a full day on my own - I actually live for this day of peace, it gives me a chance to relax!

BlueBumedFly · 19/02/2010 14:32

Jealous!!

MathsMadMummy · 19/02/2010 15:00

seems reasonable to me! although not the washing part, doing housework on your birthday is most unreasonable!!!

i was really glad to read this thread. my DD (2.8) is soon going to start daycare 2 mornings a week until she gets funding in sept. we ummed and ahhed about it as its a big dent in our money but i really need the time to study (OU degree) not to mention spend time with my DS (6m)! oh yes and housework may come into it somewhere
