I think you are being a bit U. If Aunt Edna decided to sit in her bath of baked beans, who would be interested/ If Aunt Edna sat in her bath of baked beans with a popular celeb supporting her, it would generte publicity and thus cash for the cause.

FolornHope · 17/02/2010 09:20

i remember watching that sleb the apprentice. and susanah or trinny rang someone up and said "will oyu give 10k" and they said yes.

I mean its ludicrous

YY.
Offensive, IMO. Like that re-hash of Everybody Hurts - if they had all donated their ££ instead of their time the money would have been raised and we wouldn't have been patronised. But we wouldn't have been able to see their ostentatious gift-gving and thus what good souls they all are.

Blee.

Have you seen that trailer for Pamela Stephenson interviewing Heather Mills? She says something like "A Narcissist often feels like they have to be all things to all people- does that ring any bells with you?", and Heather goes "Aye well thank god there are so many narcissists around, otherwise no charitee work wud get done!!"

I pissed myself laughing and thought of MN.

YABU

The point is the publicity. Celebs can't win - if they donated the money publicly they'd get slated, but if they do it privately they'd get slated for not giving anything.

I think if I was in the position of having a high profile and a privileged lifestyle I'd feel duty bound to 'give back' and that's exactly what they're doing.

The amounts raised far outweigh any potential celebrity whip-round.

I hate cheesy songs and telethons as much as anybody, but they raise money and that's what matters.

YANBU. I remember watching a clip of the X Factor contestants being interviewed about their charity single and they said how exciting it was being in the recording studio etc etc. Only one remembered to say that it was good to be able to promote a cause..

Morris - what you say is absolutely true, and deep down I can't disagree, but it still winds me up.

AliGrylls · 17/02/2010 12:54

YANBU - I completely agree. It really irks me too.

I completely respect people that give quietly and don't make a fuss. Jennifer Aniston is at the top of my list as is Colin Firth.

Bono is at the bottom. In fact I don't understand why people think he is so clever (I believe some people do). He is just self serving. On and Angelina is second from the bottom - publicity courter of the year.

Working for a small chariety which has the support of Shane Richie and Tony hadley it has made a really difference with thier support to raise our profile.

Yes they could donate an amount of money, but that is not the answer we wnat to raise public awareness and reduce ignorance too.

:-)
