On a friday night?????

DH thinks I am bonkers!!!!

Travelling with a friend to see a show but she cant leave until 4pm, so that gives us about 3 hours to get there.
It will be straight down the M4 and onto Hammersmith.
How bad will it be??

The worst stretch of your journey will be from junction 10 of the M4 into London. This bit alone could take you over an hour on a Friday night.

My DH drives from Slough to home in SW London a couple of times a week. Outside of rush hour the stretch of M4 from Slough to Hammersmith takes no more than 20 minutes, but during rush hour it is usually stationary traffic and can take an hour.

Having lived in Cardiff for four years when at uni (and family/home being in London), I would say that outside of rush hour your three hours would be totally do-able, but on a Friday night there's no way. If you leave at 4pm you will be hitting Heathrow/Slough/outer London traffic at 6ish, which is absolute peak time, sorry.

If you leave at 3.30 and drive like a bat out of hell until the speed camera section, you'll do it...

Blimey, IwishIwasmoreorganised, I want to know how you know that too!! This thread is potentially way more useful than any traffic hotlines I've ever used. Like the 02 one, was once stuck in stationary traffic on M6 for 2 hours and it kept telling me there were 'no reported delays'

thanks crazycatlady I am going to see my friend tomorrow and see if she can finish at 3pm maybe, then hopefully that would give us enough time

I know several people who work in the police and have told me (recently too!), and others who commute regularly through that stretch at 70mph ish and have never had a fine.
