To think that Barclaycard shouldn't ring 27 times about a late payment

in a 48 hour period.

Have been away and have returned to this many missed calls, recorded messages or those spoken text things on my answerphone.

The payment was only two days late and it's made now.

The calls are as early at 8am and as late as 9.45 pm.
Bit OTT innit?

presumably they would have stopped at 1 call if they had made contact though?

Nancy66 · 13/02/2010 19:58

Yes, presumably they would but even so - some of the calls are 10 minutes apart.

it just seems really extreme.

maybe they had nothing better to do!
or maybe they are on the brink and have been told to get in all the money then can...
or maybe the person who got your case just liked your number.

I'm home now and extracting my revenge by refusing to co-operate when they do the 'can you confirm your date of birth, address' thing.

don't give out important security information to strangers over the phone. Sorry.

that's confused them.

lol - they hate that don't they.
"but, I'm calling from your bank"

  • how do I know that?
"but, but"
  • you advise that I don't give out this info
"but, but. You could call us back"
  • why would I do that? I don't actually want to speak to you, it is you who wants to speak to me.
heQet · 13/02/2010 20:26

Oh yes, I do that too "We need to take you through security" "you phoned ME, I should take YOU through security!!"

They get quite nasty, ime.

Aussieng · 13/02/2010 21:00

I love having that conversation with them. I'm only following their own security advice - what do they expect!

Fluffyone · 13/02/2010 21:38

Yep, had the same conversation with Halifax. They refused to tell me who they were, just asked me to confirm my name then "I just need to take you through security". I refused point blank, and eventually they just ended the call. I'd already made the payment, and haven't heard from them since.
If you ever keep getting calls from a pre-recorded message that asks you to press keys to confirm your name and DOB are correct, that is probably the Halifax or an associated company. This really annoyed me as they kept leaving blank messages on my ansaphone because I was away and I didn't have a clue what was going on. I rang the number, pressed random keys until I got put through to a person, got them to admit they were the Halifax then tore them off a strip for harrassment. I told them next time I got similar repeated unidentified calls I would report them to the police.
It's just not acceptable.

. The DWP often ring me from an 'unknown' number and ask to take me through security. But they refuse to even tell me what department they are ringing from. . So I refuse to give out my details (including my NI no! ). Glad to hear I'm not the only person who takes offence to this. Just glad my bank have never tried this one!

mayorquimby · 14/02/2010 02:22

wouldn't have called at all if you'd paid in time tbf

juneybean · 14/02/2010 02:24

The AA kept ringing me last week to renew my membership, I went with RAC.

We had a credit card company that called and insisted on speaking to DH (as the card was in his name). He has told them numerous times that they can discuss the account with me, however, the woman that called insisted she could ONLY speak to DH. I told her he wasn't available and asked what it was regarding - she stated regarding his "xxxx" credit card. So I asked her to speak to me and she got all snotty about it "oh no, I can't discuss this with you, as you are not the accountholder." I pointed out that in that case she had already said more to me than she should have in telling me what credit card company she was with and that he had an account with them, and she got rather nasty, demanding to speak to him. I did ask her if it was a sales call, and she said no.

After she spoke to DH, it turns out it WAS a sales call. DH told her to talk to me about it. When I pointed out that she had lied to me about it being a sales call, she said "oh no, I'm not selling anything, I'm offering a SERVICE." For which we then would have to pay..... sounds like selling, doesn't it???

I've gone round and round with them on the whole security thing too. I won't give out details when they call us.

Poor people are only doing their jobs

Triggles · 14/02/2010 08:50

if they are polite when they call, then fine, I simply tell them that I don't give out information to people who call us, as I don't have any way of verifying who they are. I generally tell them I will call the company back through the numbers I have for contact, and ask for whatever department they have specified, and that usually solves that problem.

However, when someone calls and is rude or misleading (such as pretending it's not a sales call when it is), that's not necessary and I don't feel that is part of "doing their job"

AuntieMaggie · 14/02/2010 08:54

The last time this happend the guy on the phone was quite rude and said that most of the details he was asking me to confirm are available to the ublic on the electoral register... yes because getty shirty with me and telling me I'm being unreasonable is going to make me want to give over my details
