To think that Ugg boots are hidiously overpriced?

I do like Ugg boots. They look so warm and cosy and I like the fact that they are made of real sheepskin instead of fake stuff but £199! Really?

Are they worth it? Whenever I see someone wear them I think you spent £199 on a pair of boots not wow- you look lovely and cosy too. So ugg wearers- are they worth the money?

bogan

Morloth · 12/02/2010 20:14

Bogan not quite the same as Chav I think. It isn't so much a socio-economic thing.

All Aussies are a bit boganish, it was what makes us Aussies.

Morloth · 12/02/2010 20:15

Actually MrsC you have reminded me of another valid use of the ugg. After a surf/day at the beach they are acceptable footwear - but only for the drive home.

MrsToffeeCrisp · 12/02/2010 20:15

I love my £20 replica pair from Next, very cosy but kind of don't feel properly dressed in them, if that makes sense. Maybe I should invest in £200 pair to see if I feel more complete!

BrahmsThirdRacket · 12/02/2010 20:16

YANBU, if I was to spend £200 on shoes I would want them to make me look drop-dead gorgeous, not to defeat the point of having ankles... I have some boots that are sort of ugg-like, but black and knitted. They are very cosy. They cost £8. I would resent spending more than that tbh

Morloth - I think all Aussies should embrace their inner bogan. It would make parliament much more interesting considering they all call each other slime as it is but put on the posh act on tv!!!

BarbaMamma · 12/02/2010 20:22

Just don't buy the branded UGG Australia ones. Kiwi Sheepskin do excellent ones which I've lived in all winter-they cost £80 including postage and are made from quality sheepskin and have proper soles.

It's worth shopping around for sheepskin boots - if you search for 'UGG' on MN you'll get a few good recent-ish threads with all the links you'll need. If all you want is snug feet, why pay £100-plus for a label?

Tortington · 12/02/2010 20:23

ugg boots are hiddeous.... that's it!

MrsC2010 · 12/02/2010 20:23

I do agree Morloth, mine are strictly slobby weekend wear; dog walking, marina wandering, beach walking etc etc. And perhaps the odd lazy supermarket shop!

Morloth · 12/02/2010 20:24

Kev's a bit bogannish. Grew up in Nambour didn't he? And after all his name is Kev.

scottishmummy · 12/02/2010 20:24

what you think of pottymouth ramsay insulting tracy grimshaw

Morloth · 12/02/2010 20:26

I think Tracy Grimshaw is a big girl and can stick up for herself.

I did laugh at someone commenting on the Prime Minister having an opinion and asking "Didn't he have anything better to be doing", stopped and thought about and said "No, not really, and that is just the way we like it".

Species8472 · 12/02/2010 20:29

no, just hideous.

expatinscotland · 12/02/2010 20:31

thanks for the bogan link. Light dawns...

They* are still the comfiest, softest sloppys around though.

Disclaimer, that goes for Bearpaws and any other Sheepskin boots.

expatinscotland · 12/02/2010 20:44

No, you're paying for a fugly shoe, too.

threetimemummy · 12/02/2010 20:45

Kev, aka Kevin07 and Krudd..gotta love the respect Aussies have for the politicians.

Tracey is a gold sheila and Ramsey is a galah.

pointydog · 12/02/2010 20:45

Of course they are not worth it. Plain as a nose

LaurieFairyCake · 12/02/2010 20:49

Just bought Plumo's version this week in the sale for £40 - they are amazing

as are the Celtic Sheepskin ones I have too.

I wouldn't wear real Uggs as they are too expensive for what they are. I don't mind spending loads on other shoes that i think are worth it though so its not the cost per se.

scottishmummy · 12/02/2010 20:54

ramsay is a bawbag aw'right.tries too hard to be shocking. fame has made him big heided

pastagirl · 12/02/2010 20:55

i am with morloth, they are slippers, they are slippers, they are slippers.

and as such have dreadful grip never meant for outside wear.

I also snigger whenever i see them.

And slippers for £199!!!!!!

nutty

Morloth · 12/02/2010 20:55

He reminds me of a rolly dog - sharp-pei?

I have Celtic Sheepskin slippers, a bit mad to import sheepskin from Australian when there are perfectly good sheep in the UK.

HellBent · 12/02/2010 20:56

Top Shop had some in their clearance sale, not sure what your size is but have a look if you want them cheaper
