to sell baby clothes that have been given to me at NNS?

DSis and DSIL 'loaned" me a fair amount of stuff when I was pg with my PFB

I would say with 99% certainty that DSIL's family is complete and I know that DSis wouldn't want any of her stuff back

But we are running out of room keeping stuff for whoever else comes along next (not sure when that may be, and in the meantime DS keeps getting bigger and needing another box of clothes putting by)

I have a table at NNS in a few weeks and so wanna get rid of some of it.

But I'm not sure that these clothes are MINE to sell iykwim

Wasn't I doing them a favour by getting them out of their lofts?
AIBU to sell some of it and not tell them?

ask them first

differentID · 10/02/2010 12:06

ask if they want them back as you are running out of room or did they want you to pass them on?

PrettyCandles · 10/02/2010 12:06

Ask first. They may not care, or they may want them back, or they may prefer that you hand them on to someone else, rather than sell them.

tartyhighheels · 10/02/2010 12:09

ask them and if they are ok then sell the stuff and buy them both a nice gift each, as really its a bit weird keeping the money when these were gift. Either that or with their permission hand them on rather than sell them

laineylou · 10/02/2010 12:13

And they were doing you a favour by giving/loaning it to you. Just ask them if they want their stuff back - if they say yes take it to clutter up their houses - if no tell them you'll get rid of it for them then. If you're wondering whether or not to give them a cut of any profit....I'd say it's not compulsory but if you make shedloads from their stuff buy them a coffee /bottle of wine/ bunch of flowers depending on how much you make.

PureAsTheColdDrivenSnow · 10/02/2010 12:15

Ask them.

Anything that gets passed down to you should either be passed on to the next person, or given to the charity shop.

If it is something that you intend to sell, ask them first and make sure you give them the money.

YABU - especially as they loaned you the clothes in the first place. they may want to pass them on to someone else.

thedollshouse · 10/02/2010 12:16

If you make money you should give the money back to them. I plan on passing on ds's clothes to sil although I could really do with the money.

Sassybeast · 10/02/2010 12:19

Ask them if they want them back or if they want you to sell them for them. YABU to consider selling them yourself and keep the money without even checking if they want them back.

givecarrotsachance · 10/02/2010 13:08

Absolutely YABU. I'm at the thought. Personally I would ask whether they want them back, or as there's a NNS coming up do they want you to sell them FOR THEM. It's their stuff, they paid for it - it's stealing otherwise.

Or maybe sell them at the NNS (with their permission) and donate the money to the NCT.

mnistooaddictive · 10/02/2010 14:14

I am sure they won't mind but split money with them. Do ask first with offer of money.
They will probably be glad they are going to a good home.

diddl · 10/02/2010 14:54

Gosh!

I´d have to ask if it was OK to sell.

Then I´d have to give them the money I made.

You did say that they´d loaned you the stuff not given it.

Also, they were doing you a favour by lending it.

It was probably causing no problems on their loft.

bibbitybobbityhat · 10/02/2010 14:57

They might have other friends they'd like to pass them on to?

Of course it would be totally dishonest to sell the items and keep the money for yourself.

IndigoSky · 10/02/2010 14:58

Why on earth wouldn't you ask first?

Common courtesy I'd have thought....

ExperimentSixTwoSix · 10/02/2010 15:59

First real foray into AIBU
Won't be doing that again
But you're all right - I will ask them what they want done with and then make a decision re: money etc.
Thanks for replies.
