So it's school governor election time and both the candidates are totally unknown to me.

Their statements are deadly dull and there was nothing to pick between them. The only intresting thing was their addresses so I've checked them out on Google maps and Rightmove and voted for the candidate with the smaller house and garden bought for the lower price 6 years ago.

AIBU

And have I made the right choice....?

what stoopid criteria!

Why does a small, cheaper house make you a better governor?

abride · 08/02/2010 21:40

Er, why?

Ingles2 · 08/02/2010 21:40

er... why?

Hassled · 08/02/2010 21:41

No, that's insane. Why don't you spend the same amount of energy actually working out who they are at school and talking to them?

Actually, this is bollocks. You don't, as a rule, put addresses on Governor election forms.

sanfairyann · 08/02/2010 21:42

nice, sure they'll appreciate the stalking

Presumably OP, you feel that the candidate in the cheaper house will have more in common with you, and therefore represent your child's interest better than a richer governor would. In the absence of any other information that would not be totally unreasonable.
However, you could have found out more about them in other ways. Asking your friends at school if they know them, or could point thm out at pick-up time, phoning or writing to the candidates to ask their policy on particular topics etc.
So on balance I vote YABU.

Mumcentreplus · 08/02/2010 21:47

scottishmummy · 08/02/2010 21:50

you're a bampot embellishing dull wee school election.bigging up your efforts, bet you haven't shifted your arse in past month.let alone get all super sleuth home detective

Fruitysunshine · 08/02/2010 21:52

Why don't you just approach them at school, tell them you noticed that they had applied for Governor and perhaps have a chat with them about their thoughts and views on school issues?

nickschick · 08/02/2010 21:57

I went for parent governor some years ago this school was unusual in allowing a mum vote and a dad vote .....youd be very surprised at how many mums had been asked by their dh 'which candidate has the biggest norks'....thats where most of my votes came from .

* the candidate that won was in a newsletter congratulating her 'win' ......printed 2 days before* the votes were cast.......

illstalkyouformyvote · 08/02/2010 22:25

It's a secondary school. 1500 pupils and I never go near it. I have no chance of knowing whether they are nutters or not so I think that deciding x appears spoilt and precious compared to y who seems a bit pretentious but not as bad as x - is as good a way as any other.

I'm jolly pleased with my brilliance actually and assume others will have done the same. Surely that's why addresses were supplied?
