take soup to school in a flask again because he has come home with it all over his face

he is 10 and in y6. this is why he is not allowed school dinners as he always comes home wearing them. at home, he can eat perfectly fine

apparently nobody at all will think he looks silly with food all over him

so, AIBU?

cor he's not going to be impressing the girls, is he?

MayorNaze · 03/02/2010 18:41

i have made this point to him. he does not seem to think it will hinder his chances with the opposite sex

Men!

Yes in that case you are completely right, all you can do is censor the lunchbox in the interests of protecting him from bullying/never getting a girlfriend!

MayorNaze · 03/02/2010 18:51

thank you! that is my reasoning totally. but of course, according to him i am mean and horrible

Yeah, I'd say sandwiches from here on out. If he can't be trusted with messier foods like soup then just don't give him that responsibility. If he complains about lunch being boring, tell him in a sweet voice that if he ate nicely then he would have a better variety. Give it a couple of weeks and then trial the soup again. You never know, he might buck up his table manners.

PlumBumMum · 03/02/2010 18:59

my ds has the same problem with yoghurt and school trousers

Although hes six, and yesterday he went into school with his trousers on back to front, and then yoghurt stains, what a catch

He thought it was funny when he couldn't put his hands in his pockets

MayorNaze · 03/02/2010 18:59

he can eat perfectly well in social sitations where parents are present!
he used to manage school dinners fine until this year, which is why i am so i just think he looks a nob with food all over him and am cross that he doesn't seem to think there is anything wrong with it or is ashamed enough to take more care!

if he was 6 i might let it go but 10, nearly 11 is to old to be wearing lunch methinks

Stick to your guns, Mayor....sometimes boys seem to need protecting from themselves. How odd that he thinks it's ok to walk around covered in food!

TippyTumbles · 03/02/2010 19:12

I am surprised he is allowed to take a flask of soup to school in the first place , flask contains glass, soup is hot = an elf n safety problem surely?

Bicnod · 03/02/2010 19:14

"i just think he looks a nob with food all over him" - sorry but PMSL

YANBU - sandwiches all the way

MayorNaze · 03/02/2010 19:41

cheers chaps

will be sticking to guns and No More Soup. it probably would be an elf n safety thing if more people did it - i don't think taking flasks to school is the norm around here...

When I took soup to school in a flask, I several times dropped and broke the flask, even though I rarely wore the contents. Flasks are a lot of trouble, I think.

Yep, same here with DD and yoghurt. I asked her very nicely today to try and keep her jumper clean (ie, please don't slop your lunch or paint all over the front of it because then I have to wash it and dry it somehow before tomorrow because you did the self same thing yesterday ) and she came back with it absolutely covered. Have told her if it keeps on, she won't be getting yoghurt anymore in her lunch.

MayorNaze · 03/02/2010 20:11

see now yogurt he manages fine! very inconsistent...
