To keep DD at home because it's icy and may snow later?

Bit of background. I had two cars - my old sports car (had before DD now 2.4 and is rubbish in ice/snow) and a sensible car. Two weeks ago, after dropping DD at nursery, I had horrible accident in my sensible car (an Audi, so not flimsy). Accident caused by ice on hill where I live. Car only two years old has been written off (over £11k damage). This leaves me with little sports car. Have necessary childseat to turn airbag off etc so in normal weather it's perfect for DD and me (and it's just the two of us) and we both like it more.

Anyway, today it is very icy here and is likely to snow later (Yorkshire side of Pennines). I hate using the little car in the ice/snow as it is rear wheel drive, automatic, big fat tyres, etc. Had a little slip in it last night and got rapid heart beat, cold sweat, felt sick as brought back feelings from accident (I still have cracked ribs, bruises and ankle pain).

Soooo, please tell me I'm not being unreasonable to keep my DD at home today and not risk a trip out in icy conditions. Or, tell me that I should get a grip and stop letting one accident turn me into a chicken!

stay at home!

Should also say that I work full time but am home worker and have no face to face meetings today, just conference calls. That said, with DD here, I am unlikely to do much actual work!

Stay at home, you are still recovering and it would be unsafe to go out.

you are not turning into a chicken, it sounds like it would be unsafe to drive.

I'm sure once the snow and ice is all gone you will be desperate to get in the car and out and about again.

Now get back to work, you are supposed to be working, not mumsnetting

your daughter is only little a day off in these circumstances wont hurt

fernie3 · 03/02/2010 08:58

oh by the way I am in awe of you working full time from home I only have about 2/3 hours of work to do on the computer in the day and I find that bad enough, so many distractions, children everywhere. If had to do a full day I would be up until the early hours! lol you are a stronger woman than me!

Nursery is not compulsory so therefore YANBU. Girlie time with your DD however, is very important

Are you actually in the Pennines? I travelled across the A66 in snow just after Christmas - never again. I was bloody petrified.

BelleDameSansMerci · 03/02/2010 10:56

Well, my boss was a bit snippy but she doesn't have much choice really!

fernie- don't be in awe. DD is at nursery full time and she's my only one. I've worked from home for years as I work in Communications Industry so we were able to point out that they should practice what they preach!

sb6699 - just outside of them on the Yorkshire side. It's pretty scary up here when it snows. The "locals" all seem to be very confident and know when to stay in/go out. I'm originally from Suffolk and lived in London for years so any snow and I'm a bit of a scaredy cat. The accident has just about finished me off.
