AIBU to get annoyed that my colleague bring boxes of chocolates and biscuits every day for everyone to eat at work? they leave them on a table next to mine and I spend my day trying to resist them. I am not talking about special days. It is every day that we have at least 3 choices of cakes or other sweets. We are all going to dye of either obesity or heart attack!!

YABU. Although I feel your pain. But it's your issue not theirs.

Although you could ask for the sweet spot to be changed?

GetDownYouWillFall · 02/02/2010 13:18

Sounds like my office! We called a truce in the end and now noone brings in anything unless it's a birthday or someone's been on holiday.
Be strong!

I know it is my problem, but... I have recently managed to loose 1 st and I really don't want to be tempted all the time. It doesn't do anyone any good, even the thin ones.

tis very unreasonable of them, unless of course they cater for all tastes and allergies, in whcih case they are lovely and you are mean for not eating the poor lonely cakes!!!

BendyBob · 02/02/2010 13:25

I take it you've seen the Catherine Tate sketch about cake at work?

kinnies · 02/02/2010 13:25

I would just like to say,
I can eat cake all day and not get fat!!!!!!
HaaaaHaaaHaaaaaHaaaaa!

P.S I know I ABU

CirrhosisByTheSea · 02/02/2010 13:28

I think you need to assertively move them, just say "I'm not sitting next to these all day"

and take it some healthy treats, punnets of grapes, strawberries or something

agree with you that this is a really bad and unhealthy habit to have in an office but it won't change unless someone changes it, so why not take the initiative?

AMumInScotland · 02/02/2010 13:38

I don't think you can stop them bringing them in, but you can say that you don't want them on the table right next to you. Pick another spot, and move them there. If necessary, stick a large potted plant, or pile of filing, in the "usual" spot. Repeat until they get the message...

RockbirdandHerSpork · 02/02/2010 13:46

What a bunch of miseries you lot are! Fair enough if you don't want them next to you. I'm trying to lose weight too and don't want them next to me either but why should everyone else change because you think they shouldn't be eating them? My office is full of fit skinnies who eat healthily but love a biccie with their tea. Who am I to stop them or criticise them?

FootStamper · 02/02/2010 13:46

ColdBunny - I think you should woof down as much as you can, take a disproportionate number of chocolates and extra large slices of cake and I can guarantee that the sweetie corner will be moved further away from you. The reason they leave them next to you is because you exercise extreme self-restraint.

JemL · 02/02/2010 13:47

Yanbu

This is why I put on 3.5 stone when pregnant with ds2. I have no willpower.

LetThereBeRock · 02/02/2010 13:48

YABU but YANBU to request that they are moved.

ColdBunny · 02/02/2010 15:04

thanks All. Unfortunately the current "treats table" is the only available place, so I am just going to have to put up with it and not look. When I come back from a business trip I always bring chocs as well, but I pick the toffee ones because I know I hate them and other people love them. I don't want to come across as the miserable manager, but it is bloody difficult. My colleagues are really good at baking as well, so most things in there are yummy!

I have an idea. If you want to make your office a healthy one why don't you accidentally pour your tea all over the cakes. Oh dear - looks like no-one is having one!

lisbey · 02/02/2010 22:36

I have a very annoying colleague who has lost 5 stones (too much for him, looks dreadful) on one of those shake and soup diets, but still brings in cakes and chocs almost everyday to make the rest of us fatter.

He says he's doing it because there's no need for everyone else to go without for his benefit, but we know better....

TheFallenMadonna · 02/02/2010 22:39

Our cake supplies are positively correlated with the amount of crap loaded onto us by senior management. It's a bonding thing...
