To think that the hardest thing about most jobs is the politics?

I worked as a teacher before dd and the hardest thing about the job is rotten office politics. The students are pussy cats compared to some of the other staff.

I just want to do my job but instead I have to negotiate the world of sussing people out. Uggggghhh.

Having said that I've had some lovely colleagues -especially when pregnant. I think I am just BAD at politics tbh.

I think ability to work with others is an integral part of a job, and being good at your job means being good at that. Its very difficult though!

yanbu - it makes all the difference. Especially in schools, all that flexing of muscles and ruling over the classroom, sometimes leads to rampant egos in the staffroom (former teacher here too - can you guess?).

I find it easy to get on with some people but not everyone. It's the general bitching that gets me down.

YANBU. I never noticed it until I came back after mat leave, so bloody pointless

I just want to go in do a good job, forget about it and go home, but it's a minefield because some weird people don't think like that and have all these self esteem issues wrapped up in what people think of them, plus my boss has more mood swings than a menopausal woman (and trust me after 6 months on menopause injections I know exactly what it's like)

Sometimes I find working with adults more unpredictable than the baffling behaviour my 3 year old son exhibits.

I so get you I said the same to someone today. I worked in a Care Environment, which was quite demanding. Obviously you can't and the stress back to the clients, so the staff do it in small ways to each other... it seems. I.e making you feel undervalued (giving unclear information, putting you in awkward situations etc etc)... and then you have the lets all talk together in a huddle over hear while she gets on with it... Not like this all the tim I have to say, but it makes the day so much harder doesn't it. You end up thinking, why bother. It's my fault I can't say no.

I have to say, some people are good at their join, are nice to their colleagues but don't realise what they say sometimes.

YANB at all U. I realised I was just going to stop trying to figure out the politics when someone sent a circular email asking the whereabouts of a tupperware box when she knew perfectly well the woman who sits next to her had used it for something (work related).

I thikn when you get back from maternity leave you can't believe people have the energy for all that shit.

YANBU.....I spent at least 2hrs yesterday, discussing the merits of not doing something when the job it self would have taken 5 minutes because noone wanted 'their' staff doing the job!!!

Totally bonkers!!!

YANBU!
i am soo much more relaxed in life now that i'm self-employes.

i get on with my customers and suppliers, and yet i don't have someone constantly evaluating my every move and making me appear inadequate because i don't spend my every working moment doing exactly what i'm told!

strange, because my "people skills" were the most lacking when i was in empoyment....

mummyflood · 30/01/2010 11:56

Yes, I hate this one too. My last job started off ok, but they kept altering the responsibilities of the line managers in various depts, trying to get them to cover for each other etc, and due to personal issues between them, you would get people who would do certain things for one person but not another. Also, depending who was 'friends' on facebook made things a bit cliquey. Facebook actually seemed to be becoming a 'virtual staffroom', IYSWIM.

YANBU!!
