saw this on a friend of a friend's facebook as a status:

"Shame on you ENGLAND !!!!!! The only country where we have homeless without shelter, children going to bed without eating, elderly going without needed meds, and mentally ill without treatment - yet we donate £50 MILLION to the people of Haiti...99% of people won't have the guts to copy and repost this!! It's a disgrace charity begins at home !!"

I cant even put into words what I think about this statement. Is narrowminded and silly the right thing to think? I mean, do people not see a huge national disaster that caused 200,000 deaths and destruction of infastructure on such a huge scale is completely different to England's "problems"?

It almost strikes me as BNP kind of talk. I mean, I'm patriotic, but surely this is extreme?

Meh - this is doing the rounds of the internet so not restricted to this country. Like this guy's response:

What a great response! Now that's one that should have been copied for everyone to post.

YANBU - facebook is an nteresting sieve that way.
50 mil prob isn't that much cash in the international scheme of things but i'm glad that whoever makes these decisions sent it.

Meanwhile i had a fb friend who kept sending me invites to groups who wanted to name baby p's killers and other such tabloid tales. when i declined to join them he challenged me about it!! hmmm 'remove from friends'!!

but yeh - it is a bit bnp - agreed!

"well if you personally know someone who is homeless without selter, dc who go to bed hungry, elderly and medically ill not receiving treatment - someone in your family for instance who you really care about, it might be hurtful to think the govt is leaving them to suffer and yet there is enough money floating around for it to be sent overseas IYSWIM?"

If you personally know someone who is homeless or has children who go to bed hungry, how about you put them up on your sofa or lend them a few quid?

posieparker · 29/01/2010 13:06

One of my fb friends had this too.... we all had to comment that as we don't read The Sun or DM we couldn't agree!!!

MIFLAW · 29/01/2010 13:06

"The only country where we have homeless without shelter, children going to bed without eating, elderly going without needed meds, and mentally ill without treatment" - indeed. In Russia, for example, everyone lives in five star hotels and eats caviar for breakfast.

FFS.

Well said MIFLAW!

Pikelit · 29/01/2010 13:12

Fortunately I haven't discovered this on any of my FB status updates. The minute I do, whoever has posted it will become history and I shall be disappointed with my lack of judgement in assuming I ever wanted to "know" someone who could hold those sentiments.

So YANBU. It's more than narrow-minded too.
But giving offence has never bothered the BNP scum.

Just noticed 'friend' with this on her page and have deleted - I am not impressed with this sort of narrow mindedness!!
