before donating £3 a month

ds (age almost 4) keeps seeing the adopt a tiger advert on tv and is says it's sad bad men are taking tigers fur and so on and seems interested in adopting a tiger. ds usually dislikes animals and has never been interested in animal sanctuaries which has been hard for me as i am animal lover so i would really like to encourage him to care

any info would be great, aibu to be considering letting ds adopt a tiger ?? and before anyone flames me for putting animals before people i do support other charities on a monthly basis and will continue to do so

no, imo you are being very reasonable sponsoring a tiger. I personally would much rather give money to conservation and wildlife charities. There are plenty out there who will empty their pockets for the usual comic relief and the like. Lets face it there are plenty of us overpopulating the planet, but the tigers need all our help.I think surely the wwf have a website.

mmm... as someone who works in conservation I would say that WWF are known on the ground for being too big and bureaucratic and perhaps not the best at really directing funds to where the problems really are...

BUT if you're someone who wouldn't usually support conservation but is considering doing so on the basis of their advertising fundraising then I think any additional money helping to save biodiveristy is a GOOD THING

My boys adopt a dolphin and a panda from WWF and I don't give a damn about people before animals crap, anyone who pulls that one is a coldhearted dimwit.
We recieved a cuddly toy, certificate and pictures, my boys go to bed with pandy and dolphie every night. Well done for encouraging your child to be an animal lover so many "people" use animals as accessories for their children and don't really care.

junglist- well said. Couldn't agree more.

My Brownie pack has adopted a polar bear. They take turns to take the cuddly toy home and I use it as a way of helping them think about conservation and what we can do to help.

Agree with Cheninblanc. Conservation is a low funding priority at all levels, and of the funds given, the majority goes to a small group of larger organisations - like WWF.

Yanbu though, and such schemes are a good way to educate dc's on environmental issues.
