to think that freephone calls from mobiles should be free?

I understand that mobile phones don't want you using their network and bandwidth for calling card calls using freephone numbers - but surely it isn't beyond the bounds of human ingenuity to separate out calling card 0800 numbers from ordinary 0800 numbers?

In any case, the amount the mobile networks charge is completely obscene. It can be up to 50p a minute to make a "free" call!

What is a card call? Have you seen www.saynoto0870.com?

I mean those phone card companies. You buy a phonecard in a shop for £5 or £10 and it lets you make calls if you dial a special number and put in a PIN. Often that number is a freephone one.

Thanks for the website though, it looks very useful!

Oh, I see - I haven't seen them. I am still a bit confused though, why would you need a phonecard if you have a mobile? Or are you meaning that you would borrow someone else's mobile? In which case, could you not borrow their house phone instead or use a phone box? (0800 numbers are free from phone boxes)

No - the phonecards are the excuse that mobile phone companies give for charging for freephone calls.

They don't want phonecard companies piggybacking for free on their network.
