Hello all!
New here
Well, this is something which really grinds my gears.

I find it extremely annoying when people wear t shirts of bands they don't like/know just because they are stocked in a fashionable shop.
Such as Ramones t shirts, Rolling Stones etc.

Also, when for some bizarre reason Che Guevara is emblazoned across t shirts, clocks, general homeware...it is very strange and I often feel very tempted to stop people and ask if they realise they are wearing such a strong statement!

The same goes for the excessive use of images of people like Audrey Hepburn. She is an absolute icon and one of my absolute heros, but the reason people see her as iconic is very superficial. She actually had a terrible childhood and experienced some awful things, and that is why it is so amazing that she still found the strength to go on to be such wonderful actress and charitable person.

Anyway, it is the general wanton use of iconic people/symbols which is rather annoying! Like people using the peace sign as a fashion statement rather than the symbol that it is.

I don't like it either.

Mind you I don't like it much when people advertise the shop where they bought their clothes. I would much rather have a plain hoodie than a hoodie with GAP written on it, or NEXT or, God forbid, FCUK.

Welcome to MN.

hate's a strong word I think yabu and should chill

I'm not sure. As much as I roll eyes when I see kids wearing Ramones/The Who/Sham 69/whatever t-shirts, knowing that they can't possibly remember the bands as I do, they tend to invoke a smile. I'd far rather that than Lady ruddy Gaga!

I've often been tempted to ask the wearers if they know and like the music though.

My dh often accuses me of being a music snob but I don't share your view (I may have used to) You don't know who is using such symbols as fashion statements and who genuinely believes/likes/supports/understands what they really stand for. So it is quite superior attitude to want to challenge them about it.

I think it is great that young people to do like and want to listen to music of past generations, they can be an amazing influence in more ways than one. So much of the music I listen to and found influential, I was just that bit too young to have heard first time around. Doesn't make my enjoyment of it any less valuable than those who "were there at the time".

YABU. It doesn't matter.

They might just like fashion.

Hate it when people think they 'own' something because they know more about it or liked it first.

That said, if I wear something with something on it, I do look into it first or buy something I like myself. Truffleshuffle.co.uk is a good one as it's from my era.
