to harbour uncharitable thoughts about "Everybody Hurts?"

I am sure that it will raise lots of money to support survivors of the Haiti earthquake, which is beyond reproach.

However I am already feeling queasy at the thought of all the slebs turning the emote-ometer up to 11, intercut with slow-mo footage from the scene of the disaster.

I have already donated, but would consider donating rather more than I can afford if someone could arrange for a 10 second warning to be broadcast before I have to watch anyone clutching their headphones and wailing "huuuuurts!"

Everybody hurts? You don't say.

princessparty don't be so a) naive and b) patronising.

No one on here has said anything against the cause, the importance of that is beyond dispute. But have a re-read of Doodleydoo's post above as to why charity records are a pile of toss. Don't kid yourself that these people are 'doing something about it'. Of course they doubtless feel awful about the situation and want to help. But when it comes to their own money they've got short arms and long pockets. So they do themselves a bit of good and contribute everyone else's money instead. That's nothing to celebrate.

Princessparty, I've yet to speak to anyone who hasn't donated or done something about it.

"Everybody Hurts" is a song about cares wearing you down to the point where you don't think you can carry on. We can all relate to that. We can't all relate to Haiti.

One of the many great things about "Do They Know It's Christmas?" was its very clear messages that we have no idea how lucky we are.

I think if you were in Haiti you would be very grateful and wouldn't care about the motives of those involved.THEY are the people who count not the UK cynics !!
How do you know SC and the celebs haven't made large personal donations in addition to the record.Won't they earn loads and loads from royalties every time its played as well as record sales .

Yeah they probably have, and I don't necessarily think they need to prove their worth on that front either. Again, no problem with celebs raising money & their profile.

It is the choice of song, and yes I do think it is important that it is appropriate and at least has a stab at humility.

No good deed goes unpunished as they say !

LOL Princessparty, I'd forgotten that saying, it's a good one!

Is there any site keeping track of which celebs have donated their own money? I'd be interested to see.

princessparty · 26/01/2010 22:26

I don't think most celebs would want to divulge.
'Discretion is the better part of valour '

(I'm full of these sayings tonight)
