He is 11 yo and his locks are very precious to him. After having a disasterous haircut last night I thought we might have a bit of a problem this morning going to school.....mahoosive understatement, you would have thought the world had stopped spinning!!!!.....his world had ended, he had a "bowlhead"

Cue S@2 quick call to school to say we were running a little late and marched off to the barbers to see what could be done with the said disaster cut.....(we've all had em)

My thinking was I would have hated to go to school feeling this way and it could have stuck with him way beyond the outgrowing of said bad hairdoo......horrible events have a way of sticking like that imo...

So was I being too precious, wwyd - he lost about an hour of school this morning and got a "nice haircut" comment V's potential complete meltdown in school at the mere mention of anything bowl like - Did i save my sons street cred, or did I pander to a complete Diva

i think you did the right thing and would of done just the same

butadream · 26/01/2010 17:16

I think you did the right thing too and that your DS will feel he can trust you.

I have surprised myself by thinking yanbu but curious as to why you didn't get the original hair cut sorted before leaving the shop.

vvvodka · 26/01/2010 17:18

you did the right hting.

NatalieJane · 26/01/2010 17:18

At 11yo I'd have done the same.

Can still remember my poor friend at school, her haircut went badly wrong (we would have been around 9/10yo), and she never lived it down.

stoppinattwo · 26/01/2010 17:21

FAb....the original haircut was done by my niece, who is a trained hairdresser, and yesterday evening when it was done he said it looked fine and he was happy with it.....but he had that unsure look in his eye on further investigation and cross examination he finally admitted that he didnt want to offend neice and so had said nothing....

Soooooooooo she had gone home and I was left with a bowl head at about 9.30pm last night..

Moral of this storey....dont let a relly cut ya hair and pretend you like it

I would have done the same thing. YANBU.

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 26/01/2010 17:23

Bless him for not wanting to upset your niece.

stoppinattwo · 26/01/2010 17:23

NatLane...my thoughts exactly, I had visions of still being ribbed about it into his secondary school days....wouldnt be a good thing at all

FAB....it was the look he wsa giving her as her was telling her that it was ok....I thought my heart was going to burst, you know the sickening feeling you get when you see a glint of panick in your kids eyes that nobody else would notice....I just knew straight away it wasnt ok and was trying to give him a get out clause by saying "are you sure you like it because she can maybe chop it a little more".... he probably thought "not bloody likely" lol

Given that his intentions (not upsetting your niece) were good, and it wasn't just a random hissy fit, I think YANBU at all - as long as DS understands your reasoning.

Sn0wflake · 26/01/2010 17:27

I wouldn't want to go anywhere with a crap hair cut so why should he? You were a good mother in my opinion.

Rombouts · 26/01/2010 17:27

you did exactly the right thing.

stoppinattwo · 26/01/2010 17:29

I think bathing a cat would have been an easier option than getting DS into school this morning

YANBU
I have curly hair, and I will never let down when a trainee hairdresser cut my fringe, and did not take into account it would curl up. It looked like I had a 1cm fringe, I was 14 and looked idiotic. I still have in my minds eye a picture of myself with a silly grin, hair in ponytail, and a fringe 1 11/2 inch above my eyebrows.
