I'm 15 weeks pg at the moment. My husband is a research scientist.

On Saturday night he rolled in pissed from the pub ( setting the context here.)and announced ( not asked... announced) that his colleague from the lab would be collecting the cord blood from the delivery room when this DC is born.

I was not impressed, to put it mildly.
I'm all for scientific research but don't you think they are ethical/moral issues with my DH using the cord blood from our baby?

I'll probably say yes in the end but think it needs more of a discussion. Or am I just being precious?

A girl who used to work with me moved to aanother lab and could often finish a phone conversation with 'got to go, there's a placenta waiting for me'

Not a good way to present it but donating for medical research is a worthy cause (assuming that's what his mate does, real research).

I was absurdly pleased when the mw told me my placenta was one of the largest, healthiest specimens she'd ever seen. Can I blame it on the hormones of having just given birth? I am just so glad I didn;t make some stupid comment at the time......

I had my cord blood collected at my HB. I wanted to donate but didnt live near enough a colleciton facility. In the end a private company offered to do it for free which was kind.

The MWs were very good and did it with the help of my friend. It was a bit faffy though and it did involve them all standing around my business end for a fair while.

Dont think I would be happy with a Lab bloke I didnt know doing the same!

poledra I too was proud that with DD1 they said they got "loads of lovely bright red blood" and with DD2 they told me a volume in an awed manner! It's so silly isn't it I was utterly chuffed.

I expect they say that to everyone...

No no they don't we are special with super duper placentas
