to not allow dd 2.8 to "play" on wii?

dp's sister is moving in for 4-6 weeks while she waits to complete on her flat.

She is very gadget orientated and had a wii - no doubt this will be hooked up in the living room as sure that dp will want to "have a go". I'm fine about this for evening when dd is in bed but I do not want it played at the weekend whilst she is around. I just don't want her "having a go" at such a young age and I know she'll want to as she always shows great interest in dp's siters i-phone when she plays games on it when she comes round (which I hate)

Am I being unreasonable to set some ground rules for dp's sister and say no wii when dd is up and about?

Gosh yes, is your sil really playing with her iphone when she visits you? That's very rude, and a bit sad... (I love iphones btw)

Entirely unreasonable!

The wii is fab for young children and they love being able to play games with adults. It will be fun even if she can't do it very well. Just enjoy it.

yes quite! how rude but that's a whole different thread - I'm sure I'll be on here bitching about her when she's halfway through her stay (can you tell I'm not particularly looking forward to it?). Although this is why I don't like small children having handhelds .... aren't we just bringing up a generation who will all think it's perfectly ok to do what SIL does when they're out in company? Also hate people texting/answering phone at dinner. Rude!

Yes, I shall go with the flow feelhorrid

Totally with you there. Eldest son has tried on occasion to get his phone out and text while we eat! Arghhhhhhh!

YABU.

Children should be exposed to technology in small doses. It's good for them.

I thank god there were no mobile phones in my youth (giant brick ones excluded), my dad used to have a hairy fit with his leg in the air if the phone so much as dared to ring when we were having our dinner. Knife and fork slammed down, eyes rolled to the ceiling, lips pulled back across face whilst huffing .... "who the fuck hell is that ringing when I'm having my dinner?", if mum ever dared get up to answer he'd bellow "leeeeeeeeeeeeeave it! If it's that important they'll call back". Ah happy days. I do remember taking much pleasure in pissing him off last year when he was complaining about text messages. My sister and I set about conducting a conversation between us via text whilst he was in the room, both of us tittering and laughing as he huffed away to the sound of the beeps - it took him at least 5 minutes to work out what was going on. I was 38 at the time, but I hasten to add it wasn't dinner time.
