.... and told me it was 'leicester'? It was absolutely not deliberate, she would never do that and it's not her fault if she didn't know the current advice, but I feel pretty irritated that the whole family (DH excluded) then treated me as if I was being precious for looking slightly concerned (I didn't say anything really, just felt a bit upset). Not helped by the fact that I've been throwing up for the last 24 hours, probably just a stomach bug but am feeling hormonal and paranoid.

I'm not even massively observant about what/ what not to eat, I just like making these decisions for myself!

Bloody loving MN today.

I can't work out whether I like this thread better when I think it must be a wind up or when I just accept it as reality.

Ohhhh, OP, you're great.

nickytwotimes · 25/01/2010 20:55

Oh, for the love of God...

ToccataAndFudge · 25/01/2010 20:57

lancashire is quite simlar looking to white stilton as well - white and crumbly.

I still remember going at my MW when I first saw her at 20 weeks when I was pg with DS1. I'd been abroad for the start of my preganncy so had no idea about the "don't eat this, don't eat that stuff"

Got back to the UK and pigged out big time on cheeses of all descriptions and pate (couldn't get either where I'd been living).........she told me to avoid those foods and I won't "oh".........

DS1 absolutely fine

JaneS · 25/01/2010 22:35

Confused. What could White Stilton possibly do to you anyway, that Leicester couldn't?

pointydug · 26/01/2010 20:07

I think the op is in need of a British Cheese Test.

Isn't it part of the UK citizenship test?

misschilli1 · 17/01/2016 09:31

I understand your worries being a first time mum. I'm on baby number 2 and i still
Worry about what I eat. Mum gave me
Parmesan the other day and I had to
Check Cause it said it was made with unpasteurised milk but then I learned its a hard cheese so it didn't matter. Is normal to worry so all the people who are saying you're overreacting are out of order. It's just the beginning of A lifetime of worrying about your baby, believe me, so it just makes you a caring mumma. white Stilton is fine anyway so don't fret, second pregnancy is just as confusing for me I have to try remember Things all over again but I'm less panicky As I was with my DS, because I do realise that guidelines are just there as precautions and our parents never followed any of these rules and most of us turned out ok so chill out, relax and enjoy your pregnancy, before you know it, baby won't be a baby anymore and you will long for these days back, especially your first as it's the most exciting of all. Hope this helps.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 17/01/2016 09:34

Grin 6 years, six long years!

SpoonfulOfJam · 17/01/2016 09:54

I hate these threads. Nobody forced you to eat the cheese. The cheese isn't even harmful.

Be thankful a tummy bug is the worst thing you have to worry about during your pregnancy.

OTheHugeManatee · 17/01/2016 09:55

YABU. But I think the cheese 'guideline' is OTT anyway. Your sickness was 100% not caused by eating white Stilton.

SpoonfulOfJam · 17/01/2016 09:55

6 years! So I got annoyed and bothered to post on a zombie thread!

fidel1ne · 17/01/2016 09:59

So how did you find the thread? Confused

pictish · 17/01/2016 10:03

Of all the reasons to take the hump with the mil, this is a doozy.

Tywinlannister · 17/01/2016 10:09

I don't think yabu to feel a bit upset as its your body, but it wasn't intentional. And you will almost certainly be fine.

I ate an unpasteurised Turkish cheese for the first 4 months. In vast quantities too - probably a wheel every 2 weeks. It just didn't dawn on me that it wouldn't be pasteurised! Everything was fine of course so don't worry.

LouSavage · 17/01/2016 10:20

Are you sure you're not puking because you're preggo?

BoffinMum · 17/01/2016 10:25

TBH most pg food guidance is quixotic and bizarre, and does not exist in other countries. Basically if it comes from a reputable supermarket and is within the dates stated on the packet the odds are so minute of anything happening that it's not worth worrying. Eating out is significantly more risky, as if avoiding your flu jab, but people seem to make less fuss about that.

gamerchick · 17/01/2016 10:29

6 years old man that babies at school now!

Noodledoodledoo · 17/01/2016 10:40

It's the blue part of Stilton which is the issue hence why guideline is blue cheese in general is not recommended.

I made the mistake this Christmas of not double checking guideline and thought soft cheese was ok if pasturised so happily munched some camembert (not cooked) as it was pasturised then rechecked guidelines and realised my mistake! Am sure baby will be fine!

Behooven · 17/01/2016 11:00
