that the buyers have purchased until I receive payment?

Im still waiting to receive payments from two things amounting to £122, for 4 days now, I have received a PM from one, asking where the goods are at, and I have said I haven't received any payment, and hen I do I will send the goods.

AIBU, or is this the done thing in ebay, I always assumed that you would not send the goods until you received payment, or does common sense go out the window regarding ebay lol.

No YANBU. SOP is buyer pays first, then you send on receipt of payment.
How did they say they paid? If they did say they have?

LittleMrsHappy · 25/01/2010 09:36

They emailed asking for my telephone number to arrange to pay for the goods, but we only accept paypal as for buyer and seller protection. and we did state this on the description.

and tbh I dont know about the other methods via ebay, and all through paypal, takes a cut from the sell, it easier for us doing it this way, due to not knowing other payment mnthods.

Just ignore unusual requests and stick to your policy.

Paypal only and no goods sent until paid.....perfectly normal

piratecat · 25/01/2010 09:39

no way!! do not send anything til you get payment!!!

BouncingTurtle · 25/01/2010 09:43

Email them back pointing to your "paypal only" policy.
If they still don't pay up file a non paying bidder report.
If you had other bidders think you can offer them the goods.

LittleMrsHappy · 25/01/2010 09:50

Thankyou for your advice, can I be really cheeky but what other methods can you use (expect cash on collection) and are they safe to use, to protect both of us?

I would not use anything except Paypal, you could accept a chq as long as you wait for the money to be cleared. if you accept cash it means you are going to have to meet them etc...

have they got any feedback as it seems weird they are acting dumb.

issysmilkbottle · 25/01/2010 09:57

cash, cheque or paypal but stick with paypal for protection!

LittleMrsHappy · 25/01/2010 09:59

Yes, they have 5 feedback, but 2 of them are for non payment, so goods were not sent.

Thankyou, were new to the selling lol, and didnt know if their was some unwritten rule

paisleyleaf · 25/01/2010 10:02

Hang on to the goods until you've got the payment.
And even if you accept cheques - wait for it to actually clear.

LittleMrsHappy · 25/01/2010 10:03

Thankyou Ladies.

Sounds like they're dodgy buyers to me, esp with that feedback. Check the ebay help pages and see how many days you should leave it before filing a non-payment report. I definitely wouldn't accept anything other than paypal with their feedback history.

Peachy · 25/01/2010 10:38

We takecheques (but have toclear), postalorders (sameprocedure),paypaland alsoCoD but reserve the right to only offer CoD subject to consitions- soonly iof Dh here to take it as I dontn like strangers calling at the house (is his ebay business) and not if there is any worrying feedback.

Sending without payment is a big no no.Once ortwice I have chosen to do sowhen a cheque for atiny amount is clearing but never if asked.

They are trying it on, asking for you to send the goods before payment.

Just with regard to shinyrobot's comment about sending recorded delivery: that costs more, so unless they are paying for it, it is better to just get a proof of postage form stamped at the post office. That way, you will pay what you agreed for post, but will have proof. It sounds as though you will need it, with these jokers!

Do familiarise yourself with all the seller protection mechanisms eBay offers; it sounds as though you will need them!

Not wishing to complicate matters but there appears to be a common misconception that paypal protects the seller

this is untrue
all they protect is your bank details.

The buyer has ultimate protection from papal and can even file a credit card chargeback a year later to claim back the money, paypal canot stop this.

If I were selling something I would prefer cash on collection, or a cleared cheque, thats about it.

If they are new they may be having probs setting up paypal, it is notorious, but they should be able to discuss this without ringing you up fgs.

Don't send till you have received cleared payment.

WingedVictory · 25/01/2010 20:11

Hi, shinyrobot, all I meant was that the seller should not start spending huge amounts of money on postage that have not been agreed with the buyer, and which she has not been paid for. If I agreed second class postage with a buyer, I am not about to spend more on a more whizzy service unless the buyer pays for that, unless I have delayed unnecessarily; in that case, I would probably stump up for the extra speed, and pay for it myself, in order to make good my mistake.

Ideally, the type of postage required by the buyer will have been agreed from the moment of striking the purchase agreement.
