fridge, freezer, and not going shopping untill I really need to,milk and bread is ok as essential.
As I have a 16th,30th,40th,60th and a few other birthdays to pay out for this month and im just buying food for the sake of it when I dont really need to, its just a habit.
How long will I last{smile}

Did this from New Year until the weekend (so about 3 weeks). It wasn't that hard, actually. Had loads of stuff just sitting there in my freezer, plus tins of beans and packets of lentils and pasta and rice in the cupboad that were gathering dust. Very satisfying to use it all up.

Caved in and did big Tesco shop and ordered a curry at the weekend But still saved loads of money in that three weeks.

well keep us up to date with whatever crazy concoctions you cook up!

actually is amazing how long you can go without supermarkets for, and is surprising how much cheaper farm shops and little village shops can be - maybe because you are not bombarded with pointless offers you can completely live without

We used to have 'if it' for tea.

It started when I couldn't get to the shops and if their Dad was late home we had to have what was already in the house!

If - it -
is in the cupboard/fridge/freezer- you could have it !! For tea.

When we were running out I knew there was only savoury things so a sure bet they wouldn't be eating only cakes.

They began to really enjoy it and started asking for... if-it for tea.

It became a regular request !!

Sometimes it would be cooked, pasta with.... other times a cold meal.

Result,

  1. they made it
  2. I didn't have to go shopping as much.

I do this every couple of months to clear out cupboard. We end up eating some pretty weird stuff - but we are all still alive!

We also have "fridge" soup/quiche quite regularly, where I stand at the fridge and take out all the little half bits and pieces that are not off and chuck them into the pot for soup or mix with eggs and cheese for quiche. The only problem with this method is that sometimes you come across a mix that is utterly wonderful and have no real way of replicating because you are not sure what actually went in. I am yet to encounter anything that DH/DS won't eat.

We call it "eat the freezer". We you know...eat our way down the freezer until its all gone or we can't cope any more.

Morluth - I like the idea of fridge soup/quiche
nice one

freshcleanwashing - keep us updated on how long you last. I bet 7 days...

I like doing this, DH hates it. I am quite happy to eat odd concoctions and he is a lot more particular!

I started doing this on Monday.
Monday we had gammon and cauliflower cheese
Tuesday we had curry
Last night we had Shepherds pie
Tonight is combination of lasagne/spag bol
All meals that I've cooked too much of and frozen then forgotten about.
All I've bought all week is a loaf of bread and some lunchbox fillers.
