To be precious about my new book

My new book arrived today from amazon. Mil scoffed at the title then read the back and asked if she could borrow it for her holiday next week. I muttered something non-committal.

When she was gathering her stuff to go home I hid my book from her. I love books. Especially shiny new ones. She forgot it.

Was IBU?

yaddddnbu - that lovely new book smell and being first to open it!

YAdefNBU! I never let people read my books before I've read them. In fact, I hate lending out books full stop - and if your MIL took it on holiday doubtless it would get covered with suncream or coffee or whatever!

Good choice, btw - Their Eyes Were Watching God is one of my favourite books! I hope you enjoy it.

Is interesting to hear all the views on the Kindle - I desperately want one for taking on holiday, as I read so fast that I take about 8 books with me for the week. Would love to have some extra space in my suitcase!

Ooh, might have to go on Amazon now and lust after them...

Isn´t it bad form to ask to borrow a book before the owner has read it?

cakeywakey · 21/01/2010 10:58

Nope, YADNBU. Especially if she was sniffy about it. I lent a book to a friend once and it came back with a ring on it where she'd used it as a coaster - she hadn't even bothered to clean it off! She never borrowed anything from me again.

YANBU! (and its a very good book too by the way)

Sunshinemummy · 21/01/2010 11:17

YADNBU how rude of your MIL to assume you would want to share a book so early in your relationship with it.
