in thinking that MN is the true home of snobbery?

And I'm not knocking that. I love a bit of light hearted judging and snobbery myself - that's why I love Mumsnet. But on so many threads people are jumped on for being snobby or judgemental.

AIBU to think that this, in most cases, is a bit hypocritical and that if we weren't snobs we'd be over on Netmums anyway?

I was born an inverse snob. I have been trying to battle it successfully my whole life.

What I like about MN is that it is sufficiently diverse for the opposite view: if you do drift into a bit of unintentional (or intentional) snobbery, there will always be someone to challenge you. in RL the likelihood is, in any group you are in, you can estimate what the responses are going to be and end up never saying anything that offends anyone. Far more difficult on MN where there will always be someone with a different social background, different view of state/private, SAHMs/WOHMs, the importance of leisure/the importance of money.

Have you really not noticed that there are lots of people preaching the advantages of private education on MN, Scottishmummy? Xenia passed you by?

I like people like Xenia, because they remind me that not everybody is exactly like me, not everybody lives my life or has my priorities or would be seen dead being me.
