To have put two bags of rubbish by my neighbour's bin?

Because there was no collect last week, this week we have been allowed to put two extra bags out with our bins. Something I hate about the bin allowances is that they don't take account of the household sizes. Anyway, that aside, we're very good with our rubbish. Our bin is usually only half full, we recycle loads and use washable nappies but we are a household of six.

So today we had five extra bags rather than just two - we've had a birthday in the house so that always creates extra rubbish (packaging etc.).

I managed to stuff one more in the wheely-bin by jumping on it, but that left me with two extra.

Next door's household consists of one man.

WIBU to have put two of our bags by his bin so the binmen took them?

Personally, I'd ask him first, but seems fine.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 19/01/2010 10:07

I would ask him, cos it is polite to.

TheresSnowDragonHere · 19/01/2010 10:07

Unless you ask him, yes it would be unreasonable.

Fibilou · 19/01/2010 10:07

Did the rubbish go straight away ? If so YANBU as it won't have made any difference to him.

Poledra · 19/01/2010 10:09

I would ask, but that's because I live on a lane where every other house is either a single person or a retired couple, and most of them have offered us space in their bins at Christmas, so I know they'd say yes

Pineapplechunks · 19/01/2010 10:09

YANBU so long as you asked first. I've considered doing the same over the past few weeks, like you our neighbour is a single woman and her bin is virtually empty, but I would have deffo asked first.

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 19/01/2010 10:10

It would be unreasonable to do it without asking. Just ask nicely, I am sure he will say yes and tbh if you don't throw out a lot normally just store it until next time when you have room - if he says no.

mayorquimby · 19/01/2010 10:14

ybau unless you ask

Hulababy · 19/01/2010 10:15

I would have asked them first, just incase they had bags in the house waiting to go in before the bin collection came.

pooexplosions · 19/01/2010 10:17

Should have asked. Plus isn't most toy packaging recyclable?

MrsMattie · 19/01/2010 10:18

You probably should've asked.

Our neighbours let us do this regularly, as we seem to generate much more rubbish (and recyling)

Rindercella · 19/01/2010 10:19

Pooexplosions beat me too it...I was going to write, Should've asked first. Plus shouldn't you be recycling packaging?

expatinscotland · 19/01/2010 10:20

YABU because you didn't ask. That's just rude.

Rindercella · 19/01/2010 10:20

FlamingoBingo · 19/01/2010 22:01

I couldn't ask. The bin lorry was on it's way and he was at work. His bin is right by ours, so it literally means moving my bags one metre to the left so that they no longer look like our bags IYSWIM.

And thanks very much but we recycle everything we feasibly can

I think IWNBU - would definitely have asked had he been around.

LetThereBeRock · 19/01/2010 22:03

Why ask if you're sure that YANBU?

biggirlsdontcry · 19/01/2010 22:05

if the bin was going to be emptied straightaway then YANBU

If it isn't going to inconvenience your neighbour then YANBU.In our area the council will ask the binmen to take extra sacks if there is a good reason for it - I discovered this when my DSis and her family were visiting and we produced twice the amount of rubbish.A helpful woman at the council said they'd take up to 6 extra bags in these circumstances.

Goblinchild · 19/01/2010 23:23

On your OP, I would have said YABU because I have to keep my bins locked in the ginnel to stop my neighbours doing this. It's a pain when they do it with the landfill, but worse when they stuff all sorts of crap into my recycling wheelie bin.
Then you said the bin lorry was almost there, and all you did was put the bags next to his bin.
So that is OK.
Except that I dislike serial posts when you have to wait for the next installment for it to make sense.
