To think you really shouldn't bring your own toys to playgroup?

Why do some mums do this? Is it not just a recipe for tears and tantrums? At playgroup today one of the mothers turned up with their DS pushing a fancy walker. Of course all of the other toddlers wanted to play with it. Her son got upset that others were interfering with his toy and the little boy she prised it off was distraught. Really, why would you this?

That sounds a bit odd. DS and DD would take their bears with them, but not something like a walker.

I don't understand this either as this is what happens every time. Besides I go to toddlers so they have something different to play with!

Don't toddlers usually scrap over the toys there anyway?

JjandtheBeanisaTwislut · 18/01/2010 22:46

i run a toddler group (well more a small group of mums i met online meet in a small studio once a week)
we all bring our own toys and the kids share them it works well.

However id never let my two take toys to a group set up 'properly' it IS a recipe for disaster!

Is a stupid thing to do. The mother is a twit.

Yup, quite agree. My DD would flip if another child tried to touch her stuff, she's a bit possessive to say the least...she understands the concept of sharing, sort of, but isn't that good at it yet. So all toys have to be left at home if we decide to brave playgroup (neither of us like it that much)

MagicNappySack · 18/01/2010 22:58

I think it was just so cruel because playgroup is meant to be about learning social skills and all the toys are meant to be fair game. To have a toy sitting in the corner that the other children are not allowed to play with is just torture.

Another mother sat there with a huge see through bag of bread sticks on her lap last week. I thought that was akin to a red rag to a room full of 18mo bulls too.

It's only 60mins, FGS!
