to think this is a very odd party bag gift?

DD (3yo) went to a party yesterday of a little boy who was turning 4. She was (as usual) excited to get her party bag at the end. When she opened the bag, I was surprised to see a rubber skull. A bit of a 'boy' gift I thought, but no harm. Then DD squeezed the rubber skull: the eyes 'googled out', fake blood squirted into them, and maggots appeared! DD was rather bemused I think!

Now I am not one for insisting that my DD only plays with wooden yoyos, and skipping ropes. She has the usual load of plastic crap that all kids her age have. But I really don't think I would have chosen this as a gift for either her or her friends (even the boys!).

Isn't a gorey skull with fake blood, boggling eyes and fake maggots a bit of a wierd party bag present for a 3/4yo? Even DH said he felt a bit sick after squeezing it to get the full effect. Maybe 4yo boys just have stronger stomachs!!!

Bit odd for a 4 year old, ds(7) would love it

momofnearly2 · 18/01/2010 21:17

Never mind a 4yr old, My Dp would love it.

Parents probably told Ds that he could choose gifts for the bags!

LowLevelWhingeing · 18/01/2010 21:17

My four year old would love it! (Think I would too)

LauraIngallsWilder · 18/01/2010 21:17

I agree with you entirely!

Of the revamped Doctor Who programmes I have watched one episode.
I was scared and changed the channel before it was halfway through!

And then I find that a lot of my friends let their 4yo kids watch it...........

ArizonaBarker · 18/01/2010 21:17

My 4 year old DD would love it.

LauraIngallsWilder · 18/01/2010 21:18

And yes my ds who is 8 would love the skull thingy but I wouldnt give it to a 4yo

Undercovamutha · 18/01/2010 21:19

Lowlevelwhinging - you'd need a strong stomach. Uck! Makes me feel quite queasy!

No my dd 4 loved that, she found one in Asda.

I had enough of a battle getting it off her in the store,it would have been a cat fight if it'd been in a party bag so wouldn't have been impressed.

Still is was better than the severed arm I had to wrestle of her 2 minutes later.

Verrry odd gift I'm guessing they were left over from Halloween and being sold off cheap.

eatsshootsleaves · 18/01/2010 21:25

I think my ds would like it. He's going to be 5 soon. I bought him one of those squeezy stress balls in a net that that bubble into a different colour when you squeeze it fairly recently because he said he liked it.

I have a friend who never fails to include a party popper in her party bag. This I think is fine for when your child is older or supervising the use but I'm always nervous if ds or dd spots it first.

allaboutme · 18/01/2010 21:27

My 4YO Ds would love it.

Paolosgirl · 18/01/2010 21:30

My 2.10 year old would love it - having 2 older siblings means he is advanced for his years in the less desirable areas of development

motherlovebone · 18/01/2010 21:33

Has anyone seen the chicken ones?
you squeeze it and a watery bag of feathers balloons out of its bum.
prefer the skull tbh!

Undercovamutha · 18/01/2010 21:40

it looks a bit like this only worse!

MilaMae Very funny!

tassisssss · 18/01/2010 21:43

please excuse the parent if there are older siblings, our younger children tend to get into such things early and we forget that they're not age appropriate!

MilaMae · 18/01/2010 22:04

Said dd has the chicken you squeeze with the egg that comes out of his bum.

This was bought on a lovely trip to Tridias, one of those memorable mother daughter bonding days.

I said she could have £2 to spend as I was drooling over these gorgeous tiny £2 French rings with felt flowers on(they were so chic).

DD marched straight past them and was in raptures over the chicken bum toy. She adored that thing for weeks, even took it into show and tell at school

pointysaysrelax · 18/01/2010 22:07

A bit odd but in a funny way. What a hoot.

cheesesarnie · 18/01/2010 22:11

i think fab party bag treat!better than the same old hooters and bubbles!

Undercovamutha · 18/01/2010 22:15

Oh give me bubbles anyday. It is sooooo gross!

MilaMae - perhaps we should send it to your DD so she has the whole set!!!

frogetyfrog · 18/01/2010 22:20

Oh weve got loads of those - we have the eye one and the chicken. My youngest dd is 4 and we got them ages ago. They choose them with their holiday money. I never thought about whether they were appropriate. In fact I have a funny feeling that dh put them in one of our party bags once! Oh dear. But then I think much better than most of the rubbish we seem to get given in party bags - unoffensive but boring.

MilaMae · 18/01/2010 22:23

Err thanks Under but I'll let it go,you have it.

Give it a year and she'll be cherishing it

Undercovamutha · 18/01/2010 22:31

Are you sure MilaMae! I mean obviously I would be sad to see it go, but I'd survive!

TheLadyEvenstar · 18/01/2010 22:31

Sod it I DS1 and DS2 would love that!!!

SuperBunny · 18/01/2010 22:36

mY 4 yr old would love it. He was recently quite thrilled with a whoopee cushion in a party bag.

JjandtheBeanisaTwislut · 18/01/2010 22:38

haha, yanbu, but i agree with the pp about older siblings, my ds thinks his older cousins are gods and they have all manner off gross rubber things so of course they share with him

However in the odd party bag stakes, how about this, i take 9yo cousin to a party, when i collect him his party bag is... a brown bag with an apple and a recycled pencil, his face was a picture!
he enjoyed the apple and though a pencil made from coke bottles was cool but said he missed the plastic rubbish and sweets i however was LOL all the way home!
